Yeah the Hawks have screwed up everything since drafting Bedard. Only now they've started course correcting with the Knight acquisition.
They really needed to draft Demidov to give Bedard something to work with in the immediate future. Levshunov is already there and honestly looks like a fish out of water.
They need to back the money truck to some stable UFAs. I'm sure they're going to eat a bunch of the available FAs this summer.
like, they haveaube one really interesting player coming up next season in Oliver Moore as far as I can tell.
Man, Chicago needs a quick turn around if they plan on keeping Bedard happy. Because that roster outside of Teuvo maybe and Knight is a big pile.of meh.
There's scorched earth and then there's Chicago. That's how you don't scorch the earth in a rebuild.

Even Moore projects to be a 3rd liner. Great skater, but his offensive acumen otherwise is limited.
I agree, they really whiffed not taking Demidov.

They currently have 4 rookie dmen in their lineup.
Most publications have their prospect pools one of the best in the league.
I'm reading Levshunov has been quite good?

I personally have watched one game and Levshunov was lost in positioning, a lot. Maybe that was his first game but he didn't look good at all.

They will have one of the top pools by virtue of where they have picked. But I look at the guys on their list, and I don't see a lot of game changers:
Leyshunov is likely being under-rated. He's paying, and improving in the AHL. But I think they missed on a chance to get Bedard some elite offensive help, which they should have prioritized.

There was a few I had in mind, like Tim Stutzle, but he's older than 21. I guess it's closer than I thought.....

So being a Sharks fan will eventually stop feeling like self-flagellation?

It almost isn't any longer already. I have caught some Sharks games now and then since Celebrini is fun to watch, but their team as a whole are a bit fun to watch right now. Still a mess defensively, but fun. I think they will be scary in 3 years.

I think this is what you get going scorched earth. Edmonton tried to surround them with some vets, but like Ference said, the culture there was bad.

If Marner makes it to UFA they probably back up the brinks truck for him.
They likely take a big run at names like Ekblad, Gavrikov, and Provorov too.
What they really need though is a Center that can help them shelter Bedard a bit. Bennett will probably be of interest to them, maybe an overpayment on a vet like Brock Nelson too.

I don’t know, I don’t know a single Sharks who actually goes to games who is “having fun” right now lol.

Can't quote you Pepsi:
It is easier to appreciate the 'fun' in them when you are not a fan while the losses mount, I guess. Underrated watch at the bottom of the standings IMO. Nashville too. Then you have to go all the way up to Pittsburgh, and then skip again to Columbus. Those are the teams that I think are more fun to watch even if they aren't playoff teams. Maybe on an 82 game forced-fed diet of losing, it would wear thin, but I also thought that through the last Flames rebuild, they were a fun watch as well. To each their own I guess.

Yeah, it's a real slippery slope to try and navigate. It's easier for some teams to go full scorched earth and recover from it. You need good veterans around to help teach younger players and to guide through obstacles, both on and off the ice. They also take a lot of the pressure and attention. Bedard has way too much pressure on him for a 19 year old. You want him to focus on his complete game without the burden of carrying the team.
Teams and cities that have gravity no matter what, like say NYR or Florida, can navigate it more easily because they can lure almost any player they want to fill in the veteran presence. Pittsburgh got extremely lucky when Crosby entered the league because they had Lemieux in their back pocket still, who created a lot of gravity for that franchise.
A team like Chicago, which is still recovering from some very very negative PR years, isn't going to be number one on every player's list. Combine that with poor on ice play, and it's not a big draw at the moment. It's also a very fussy market, not unlike most Canadian markets.
This is why the Flames need to be careful. They have a few good veterans that seem to be OK seeing things through. There is no guarantee that if you traded them, that you could just replace them when you need to. This team went through a negative PR period due to players not wanting to stick around which it is just starting to recover from. It's really important to break that as it can become a self-perpetuating feedback loop.

Agree. I kind of wonder if the bad D is by design. The blueline is a no-name mess. Walman...he looked good. Blackwood was obviously a legit goalie (he's making too many saves....get that out of here!), but Sharks have a shot at Schaefer which would pretty much round out a proper team in 3-5 years.

Well, a few things here.
1) I am not a fan of San Jose, so I watch for the entertainment value only. My point is that it is easy to be entertained by them.
2) Some fans are built differently - I still remember the 2013-14 season in which fans would stand up AFTER a loss and applaud the team on their effort. That was entertaining.
3) The more you love your team, the more likely you are to have emotions at least partly influence your behaviours. If you expect your beloved team to play to a certain level, you will experience negative emotions when they do not. Conversely, you experience euphoric joy when they play above your expectations.
There seemed to be a lot less bitching and whining when it was clear that the Flames were in a rebuild last time. This is probably - just like everything else that is polarizing in this world - creating conflict in what should otherwise be normal discussions.
Also:
4) Losing to the Oilers should never leave you feeling ok. They are the most horrible team in the entire world of professional sports. They got their licks in on top of it too, especially against "our" captain. I was irate after that loss. I think it is ok to be irate after some losses.

Its not just against the Oilers...any close loss and people on here are freaking out how the Flames are the worst team in league history with Wolf responsible for stealing 20 points. (Thats a real post)

Lol. One game?! He's 19 playing 20-25 minutes a night in the NHL, on the first power play unit, with absolutely zero real NHL defenders supporting him.
You're going to have a real problem with Parekh too if you think Levshunov is out of position a lot.
At least Parekh should have a defensive partner in Weegar, Bahl or Andersson that can cover up for him and help him develop. This type of criticism is the strongest reason for keeping Andersson too, as it'll allow Parekh and other young defenders to develop properly.

The Demidov/Levshunov debate is undoubtedly one that will be debated to death, but it's pretty absurd to suggest that Levshunov has been terrible.
Quote:
Levshunov may be the most encouraging of the Blackhawks prospects to make their debut this season. The Blackhawks weren’t exactly sure how he’d perform once exposed to the NHL and he’s far exceeded their expectations. He’s still raw in some ways and has things to learn, but he just played in his 10th consecutive NHL game and logged more than 20 minutes for the seventh time. He recorded the primary assist on Veleno’s goal.

Lol at someone sucks and Chicago sucks at drafting after watching 1 game.
I am glad scouts watch 1 game and start writing prospects off as well.

Your bit on the opposite side is much, much more tiresome. But sure! Keep the vitriol alive across threads. That's healthy.
