Bennett isn't a regular season performer so I don't think you can have him as a 1C. People always are looking at points when it comes to him and that's not what he brings, but you need it during the regular season. But he destroys people in the playoffs, two years ago when the Panthers upset the Bruins it was due to Bennett, when they got him back they were totally different. You can see that guys fear him. How do you put value in that?

You can’t teach those traits. We have guys with high level of compete that have won cups on the roster already.

I like Bennett but like I said he will be 29 and he doesn’t produce a lot in the regular season.
This team needs to perform in the regular season. We need goals and top line talent. We have a #2 C already.
Not only that but we have vets, team needs to get younger.

At any rate, I have zero interest in dying anywhere close to this particular hill. It was a crazy idea, but it's also one I can see this organization doing.

I agree that signing Bennett doesn't make a lot of sense for the Flames. But could happen.

Oh yeah it’s a classic Flames move. Edwards is probably pushing hard to get Conory to sign a free agent.

San Jose is a young up and coming team. If we didn’t have a bunch of vets it would make sense.
Our focus should be on getting younger players into the lineup. The other piece is getting elite young talent but that is likely not to happen.

I don't really see a fit, but I think I would be fine with singing Bennett. Lindholm's contract would have to be the absolute ceiling, and hopefully you can sign him around $7M.
The Flames would need to move one of Backlund, Kadri, and Frost for it to make sense, because I don't want either of them playing LW. It would also close the door on Zary playing C.
PS: I'd rather the Flames go after Duchene, or Giroux on a shorter term in the offseason.

Bur many of our fans are convinced we're coming OUT of a rebuild and ready to add UFA's and depth players at a cost of draft picks.

Plenty of examples. Talk about adding Marner laughable.
But we aren’t coming out of a rebuild or in a rebuild. We are retooling around Huberdeau, Kadri, Weegar, Andersson.

The Flames need to get good players. Free agency is one way to do that. That doesn't mean that fans think we are coming out of the re-build.

Signing players keeps you drafting in the range we have always been in, you sign players when you have a competitive young core to add to.
Again, we are not rebuilding. We are not coming out of a rebuild.

We've heard your argument about this scores of times. You should donate it to a museum of philosophy that is looking for a perfect specimen of the ‘No True Scotsman’ fallacy.
In the summer of 2022, the Flames tried to retool. They failed miserably and the GM walked. Since they changed GMs, they've been consistently accumulating picks and prospects and trading veterans. But you insist on saying it's not a rebuild because reasons.

About to play in his third consecutive Finals, Stanley Cup champion Sam Bennett is currently leading the entire playoffs in goals scored.

I'm genuinely interested to see how much he's going to get this summer as he's kind of a unique player that actually generates more goals and assists in the playoffs compared to the regular season and has the playoff intangibles that GM's just love.
