I would track the Kings too, not because I think we can catch them but because I would want to understand where they are at for that final game of the season.
If they are comfortably locked into the #2 spot in the division then they will likely be resting their stars for that final game in preparation for another playoff series against the Oilers.
However, if they are needing the win to secure home ice advantage then they will likely bring their A game against us.
I don't think teams rest that many players at the end of the season, unless they are nursing something.
The Kings are way too far ahead. If they go 4-7 in their remaining 11 games (and considering they are both hot and the NHL's best home team, and 8 of those games are at home), Calgary would need to get to 98 points, going 9-1-1. And if Calagry can do that, they'll be in the playoffs anyway.
Does that mean the Oilers are too far ahead now? The Kings have now lost 2 in a row and lost their most recent game on home ice.

Scary that it’s starting to look like the central teams will beat the crap out of themselves again and Vegas could draw St. Louis leaving the Oilers with another favourable playoff path
Haven't seen SportLogIQ yet, but after last night The Athletic has the Flames at 12% (-2%).
The Athletic also has the Flames' most probable pick as 15th overall. 4 points out of the playoffs, and 7 points out of top-10.

Our finishes the 12 years prior. Carry on tradition.
It's enough to drive you round the bend. I had really hoped that the Flames would grasp the nettle after being in the mushy middle for so long and have a go at picking up an elite player or two from the draft in order to have a crack at winning the cup again. But no they seem content with their lot and happy to just being close to the race each year. Very sadly I am losing interest after 30 years of supporting them as they just do not have the right attitude to winning.

Yep, it's really sad actually how mid our team always is. I know people will defend our management no matter what, but it's crazy not to trade an aging Kadri, Anderrson, and Coleman at the deadline for example.
We just keep treading water, desperate for an outside chance at 2 playoff games. And they refuse to use the term rebuild because they want to "retool". When we have absolutely nothing to retool around outside of mid level players who are secondary players on a good team.
This season is just the most Flamesy thing ever. No top 10 pick and no playoffs. Classic Flames.

If the Flames are going to miss the playoffs, then I'd actually prefer the 15th pick over the 11th pick. They're losing the pick anyways - might as well have a stronger finish.

I ran Tankathon a few times the other night and though the Flames were 16th I still ended up with a lottery win and they picked 6th.
That would be the perfect end to the season should they miss the playoffs. Kids get the experience, Flames don't quit, team still gets rewarded. Montreal gets hosed. Treliving talk can finally be put to rest here.

Again, then outline specifically what you think the team should have done in order to do that. You know other than trade away several good players, and enter the season with one of the lowest cap hits in the league, a very weak blueline, no top line players, and questions in goal.

TRADE PROTECTION.
You keep ignoring actual dynamics to this.
