Alberta putting $17 million toward planning urgent care centres

It's nice to see they are forming concepts of a plan. I assume this means the south Edmonton hospital is going to be this instead.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has 'great time' at fundraiser with Ben Shapiro:
https://nationalpost.com/news/canada...th-ben-shapiro
Excerpt:
Quote:
Shapiro and Smith, according to the outlets, discussed how Canada could elect “solid allies” of the United States.
“There was a massive conservative movement that’s happening in Canada,” Shapiro said. “I think the obstacles to that need to be removed. It is better for the United States to have actual solid allies running in Canada than to have some of the schmucks that have been running Canada over the past few years.”
Smith responded: “I think the president recognizes especially the importance of oil and gas.” She added, “We already ship about 4.3 million barrels a day of oil to the United States. We’ll keep it coming.”

That's just gross.
Like, astoundingly gross.
I mean, infinitely gross.
Every day she remains Premier is a bad day for AB

I do wonder if the UCP does their usual, Now that it's getting reported on more, replace Smith a few months before an election and pretend that's not really who they are. Or maybe this time they just continue to embrace it
Not that it's anytime soon anyway

The other leaders got turfed because they got out of synch with the base. Smith is in lock-step with them, so her only threat is if they start cratering in the polls. But this is Alberta….
The wildcard is sovereignty…if she doesn’t push hard enough for or against it. This is the one issue that will get voters’ attention.

Maybe he's inspired by Florida's regression of child labour laws

Coal mines hurt trout!
https://cheknews.ca/largest-ever-fis...overy-1246646/
Quote:
Led by a partnership between the Canadian government and the Ktunaxa Nation, the $58-million cleanup of Elk Valley in the Kootenay region will come from a fine imposed on Teck Coal Limited, the company responsible for most of the area’s coal mining. The $60-million fine against Teck was turned over to the federal government’s environmental damages fund.
Mining operations released harmful substances, primarily selenium and calcite, into the Elk Valley watershed, killing fish and causing lasting damage to their habitat.
The population of threatened westslope cutthroat trout in a river below the mine dropped by 93 per cent between 2017 and 2019. The following year, 90 per cent of the species’ adult trout in a 60-km stretch of the upper Fording River were gone.
|
Quote:
Despite billions invested since 2013 to mitigate the damage, the Elk Valley environmental crisis remains dire. Water treatment facilities can now treat 77.5 million litres per day and remove 95 to 99 per cent of selenium from the water. But it’s not enough. A report says at least $6.4 billion is needed to reverse rising selenium levels in affected waterways.
