They told us if we got rid of the carbon tax, the entire planet would light on fire,” he said, adding the last he heard, “water puts out fires, not taxes.

-Pierre Poillievre

What an idiot. The carbon tax doesn't go to zero until next week. That's why the planet hasn't caught on fire yet.

Good thing we got this recent snow because the moisture will be much needed for the fires next week.

I think everybody is stunned with the politics now, like stunned and can't wrap their head around things. Liberals giddy that Trump is respecting Carney, calling out Pierre. Trudeau wondering why on earth every Canadian globally hated him this much. Pierre stunned, Carney came out of nowhere for the vast majority of people and looking at a political dynasty in the making.

Jaqmeet running around like he's actually running for the PM job when politically he's so dead that a union leader wouldn't buy him coffee. Ontario Conservatives ignoring federal conservatives. Liberal MP's who were retiring are back in the game and fighting tooth and nail to sell Canadian's on a reversal of a lot of policies of the last 10 years.

We are having a carbon tax election and Trump election 1000%. I don't think too many people thought this was going to be the result. Governor Trudeau's signature policy is out and Mr. Prime Minister is working with MAGA country to save Canada with his elbows up.

Get your popcorn ready for the next month. Wild times

Who’s stunned?

This was entirely foreseeable since Trump started his anti-Canada lunacy and conservatives took way too long to read the room. PP would have made a horrible PM. If there is any evidence of his being a statesman in any way, I’d love to see it. He is just demonstrably bad. Another in an ever growing list of failed CPC leaders who can’t seem to figure out why voters find them so unappealing.

Is it the leaders, or is it the fact that the entire CPC just does not align with Canadian values outside of some fortunate periods of Liberal-fatigue?

The fact that they've regressed from being "Progressive Conservatives" to "Conservatives" might seem nominal at first considering there are progressives within their ranks... but they allow non-progressives to co-exist with them. Because they sold out and literally merged with them to try to win alone. I wouldn't be surprised if they merge with the PPC within the next 10 years either.

Instead of breaking into two parties again, knowing they fundamentally cannot co-exist with someone like PP who would openly and actively support the convoy, they rather secretly harbour "it's not that bad, as long as we win" sentiment.

The idea of "uniting the right" is fundamentally what's wrong with them.

Desperately trying to appeal to a sliver of their actual base, alienating the large majority of conservative supporters.… continues to baffle me.

It shouldn’t baffle you. The right controls the riding associations. In Canadian politics it’s the activists that make up the membership. The conservatives even have tried to limit the affect by having riding weighted leadership votes to give Ontario and Quebec influence. But in the end the party membership that votes controls the leadership. The activists in the party boot leaders that aren’t pure enough for them.

The end result of that is Otoole being knifed for PP. They can’t move to represent the centre because they will be removed.

It’s also straight out of the right wing playbook in the US and why MAGA has control of the Republican Party. They’ll just ‘Primary’ anybody who steps out of line and put somebody more loyal to them in.

The last of the major polls that had the Cons leading a week ago now has the Libs leading by 5 points. Carney is going to win over 200 seats isn't he?

The thing with the CPC vote share is it is incredibly inefficient. It's heavily weighted to Alberta, so even if the split is 50/50, Liberals are winning more seats.

Here's a typical Canadian Conservative boomer that is living in his travel trailer because the CPP and OAS he receives after 55 years of working won't pay for his mortgage and all the taxes and utilities anymore.
All governments have plundered the social safety net that CPP was designed for but none so much as the liberals.
I'll be voting in an advance poll ASAP and it won't be for Marxist Carney Canada's WEF governor.
Conservatives. The party of personal responsibility and getting the government out of our lives. Someone working for 55 years who still has a mortgage, never mind can't pay it, has made some choices along the way. Yet, at the end, when those choices come home to roost, he wants, wait for it ... the government to pay to get him out of the pickle he has put himself into.

The ####ing hypocrisy really does drive me nuts.

But its okay, cause he'll recuse himself from conflicts of interest. Which everyone should believe especially when all the Liberal clowns he's surrounding himself with never had the foul stench of corruption associated with their time in government.
Was Brookfield charged with a crime? No? Then what they did was legal, correct? If you don't like it write a letter to your MP to change the law.

Who did Carney work for? Brookfield. What was his job? Maximizing profits. If you have investment accounts you should appreciate this.

Who does he work for now? Canadians. If elected, I hope he will use his knowledge of the system to determine what is best for Canada, including the companies that drive our economy. Maybe investment companies should pay less tax if they invest more in Canada. Incenting investment without spending government dollars seems like a decent plan.

I can't think of anyone better to analyze and determine whether tax laws should be reconsidered than someone who spent a portion of his life squeezing every dollar out of them.

Not something we want from "boots" or someone that spent most of his career pissing and moaning about what other people were doing.

Writing your MP about the issue will change nothing because a large portion of the political class and their friends, family and close donators are benefitting from tax havens. The lobbying effort is huge when it comes to tax havens and they have immense influence. Our elected MPs aren't working for us. Sure they throw us some scraps here and there to appease us but the people that really matter to them are the business owners and generators of capitals.
