I've recommended this to several people now; you can get a decent vehicle for competitive prices too. Given the auto tarriffs, wonder if the federal government would eventually find a way to relax the 15-year limit on JDMs in order to provide Canadians with more price-competitive options. It wouldn't be much, but would be a nice gesture to open the markets a bit.

Personally, I'd love to import a JDM one day! A Pajero, Alphard or Skyline would be fun

“Good discussion around the horn from all the premiers as well as the federal leaders there,” Kinew said. In a readout, the prime minister said that he had a “very constructive conversation” with Trump this morning and both countries agreed to begin “comprehensive negotiations” after the election. For his part, Trump said “things are going to work out very well between Canada and the United States.”

Well a few weeks ago 'very good' was Canada becoming the 51st state, so sure makes you wonder what that now means.

Do we know if we are going back to universal tariff on April 2nd? Hard to discern among all the news sources.

Or does it remain just steel, aluminum & autos?

He continues to talk about instituting "reciprocal tariffs" on April 2nd, which, as I understand it, are country specific tariffs that will be set according to how much that country imposes tariffs and barriers on US goods, possibly also dependent on the size of the trade deficit with each country.

Based on that, it would not be surprising to see, for Canada, a return of the 25% + 10% O&G tariff he imposed the last two times.

Nope.

Ford's Blue Cruise (the one in Sliver's truck) was launched in 2021 and really only became useful to the point of getting 98% of the way to Canmore (and beyond) without input in the last couple years.

Beyond that very specific example, saying "cars haven't changed a ton in the last 5 years" belies someone that doesn't have much experience with newer cars over the last 5 years... In the end, this is good for consumers.

But - like Sliver, I'm assuming - I've had this product on a vehicle back in 2021 and it's a stretch to understand why they even rolled it out (at least in Canada) until about 2023 or the early part of last year... Absolute, complete night and day when it comes to actual usability in just the last 2 years, nevermind the last 5... Just sayin'

Trump officials, allies grow anxious about April 2 tariffs
Just days out from Trump’s April 2 announcement of global tariffs, which he has hailed as “Liberation Day,” even those closest to the president — from Vice President JD Vance to his chief of staff Susie Wiles and his own Cabinet officials — have privately indicated that they’re unsure exactly what the boss will do, according to three people who have spoken with them.

While some details of the administration’s plan for what Trump has dubbed “reciprocal tariffs” on global trading partners are starting to trickle out, the president has at times upended them or floated contradictory policies that are keeping everyone — even his inner circle — guessing.

“No one knows what the #### is going on,” said one White House ally close to Trump’s inner circle, granted anonymity to speak freely. “What are they going to tariff? Who are they gonna tariff and at what rates? Like, the very basic questions haven’t been answered yet.”

Why just now are you saying it?

Unions have been against free trade with regions with lower wages for ever. If you notice the UAW statement just refers to Mexican factories and not Canadian ones. This is not a change in their position.

The right and left have switched over the last 30 years on their position for globalization.

This statement really illustrates the absurdity of people trying to use right/left theory as a sensible argument for anything.

It's always been way too sweet for me, so I've preferred the Aunt Jemima/Pearl Milling variety. But if I want to be a patriotic Canadian without having my teeth hurt after eating pancakes I have no idea what to buy
