If he’s somehow avoided a completely blown out knee then that’s amazing news. That timeline could have been a full season lost. If he’s back at camp next year that’s a miracle and disaster avoided IMO

Is this a re-aggravated previous injury? Did he come back too soon?

Those knees of his are a hindrance. He needs to just hack off his legs knee-down and go bionic like Tanev.

Seems like a Flames thing to do tbh, worked so well not prioritizing Monny's health after all

It is worth noting that Bobby Orr suffered multiple knee injuries throughout his career. His first major knee injury was a tear in his right knee after a collision during a game. Despite the injuries, Orr continued to perform at a high level and won the Calder trophy as the league's best rookie.

That's a stretch.
Should we just assume every single Flames player who comes back from an injury came back too soon then, or just this one who had a freak reoccurrence? I'm thinking any player whose leg bends like that is going to get injured...

Zary didn't require surgery last time, rehabbed and was fine. This was a freak occurrence and while it involved the same knee it wasn't because the knee was in a bad place physically.
Interestingly it was Huska last night who suggested that maybe the previous rehab process helped to strengthen the knee and suggested that could maybe prevent more damage than was expected.
Here's hoping.

Freak in jury or not, it is concerning that he's either re-injured or suffered another entirely different knee injury. These start to pile up in a hurry and can drastically effect the way a player plays the game both mentally and physically.

The insane amount of stretching pro athletes do probably saved Zary both times.
If that twist/pull happened to most of us, it would be a rebuild and year of rehab.

Modern medicine would have given him a lot more years.

It's not like he reinjured it on a seemingly nothing play.
He got cut out at the legs and everything bent in all sorts of ways they are not supposed to.
Just a massive reach.

I still think it should have been a tripping penalty, intentional/dirty or not.

Exactly... If a stick gets caught in the legs by accident, that's a penalty, so why wasn't this?

Considering how the game was called last night, I'm surprised they didn't give Zary an embellishment penalty.

Two minutes for interference for getting in the way of Rantanen's slide.
