NGL I've skipped a few periods for this reason. Having the Flames go back into Comeback/Cardiac Kid mode doesn't help.

They're 'Lunch Pailers.'

They just show up every day and do their jobs as best as they can.

Sure, they're not superstars or Norris candidates, they just show up and work. Thats what you expect and thats what they deliver, and sometimes more. Cant really complain about that.

They make mistakes. Comes with the territory.

On the bright side and considering the Flames' low chances of winning even with Andersson playing, this will be a good test for Bahl and a chance for us to see how much Andersson was propping him up this season.

Rooney is on pace to set a career high in games played in a single season. He is at 59 before tonight. The most he played was with NYR when he played 61 in 2021-22. Good for him.

Hanley has been terrific this year; playing like a top four out of nowhere, supposedly had interest in his services leading up to the trade deadline. Don't think it's unreasonable for him to ask for a raise in the off-season (from Calgary or someone else), this is likely his last opportunity to grab that bag if he can.

Believe he's a pending UFA? He's really re-invented himself or at least re-introduced himself to the league. He'll move on I'm betting, and probably get a nice deal.

These are the guys who probably value being in the league more than anyone. Likely self aware enough to know that the time up in this league may not be long. So don't take it for granted.

I don't think Hanley's holding Weegar back too badly based on the eye test. Certainly not a Chris Butler. When they claimed him last year I figured he was just another warm body since they were going to trade 3 established NHL players. But he's been better than that over his last 30 games for sure.

Flames win and STL and Minny both lose their games.

It's going to be a good night.

Rooney is a great lunch pailer except he constantly gives the puck away and he’s constantly on the ice when the flames get scored on. (Both even strength AND PK)
He has poor offense and mediocre to poor defense. Other than that he’s great!

If anything I’d say Bahl props up Andersson, defensively most especially.

He only has a -5 on the year. The team has a -20 goal differential as a whole. There are only 5 players on the team that have a positive +/-.

Rooney plays on a line with guys like Lomberg and Klapka. Their role is to throw some size and hits at the opponent. The other option would be to replace the 4th line with slightly better offensive players or "energy" guys. That would make the team less physically punishing and smaller though. The 4th line is big and dumb, but that's a definite hockey strategy for a 4th line.

Rooney also get 9:25 of TOI/game and 62.7% defensive zone starts. His lack of offence is not surprising.

Paging Blake Coleman. 3 points in his last 20 games is no bueno.

It's time for a big game from that line with Backlund back.

First game I'm going to in 3 years. Excited. Bringing my 12yo Tampa fan son who's threatening to cheer for Dallas

Not the whole story, but Rooney is only recorded to have 23 giveaways this season, so less than 1 a game.
That said, he has 71 high danger chances against which is over 1 a game, but to put it in perspective a guy like RNH has 148 this season.

Yeah, the Rooney criticism is overblown a bit. He did play a great game against Seattle. And his responsibilities have jacked up without Backlund there.

His difficulties are partly due to differences in 4th line players. Some 4th lines are energy/forechecking types, and that's Lomberg's game, and to an extent Klapka. Rooney is more like Backlund - a positional defensive guy. Some 4th lines are more a secondary checking line and that's what would suit him best.
