But yes, I think he still gets his buyout money.

How do you hold yourself out as a coach when you just quit like that? Isn't it his job to prevent people from doing just that, quitting on the team.

That seems like a natural fit really. I could imagine Tocchet wanting to leave Vancouver ASAP

He's got a lot of lives. I thought for sure he was done after the debacle in Vancouver. Then somehow the Blue Jackets finish with a 50-24 record and he extends his career by another decade.

This is almost certainly the end though. He somehow talked himself into a nice buyout.

They'd love him there. Former Flyer, embodies what the Flyers want to be. Has that whole blue collar vibe.

Tocchet to the Flyers makes sense from a nostalgia and personality perspective, but would he want to join a franchise near rock bottom with no chance to win in the near term? If I'm Tocchet, I'd pass and look for a team ready to contend.

Also, is Tocchet that different from Torts when it comes to playing and coaching style? Seem to have similar attributes, but I may be mistaken. Would seem odd to essentially replace a coach you just fired with a similar coach.

I still think there's some teams Torts would have success with. There's not a lot to work with in Philly. I don't blame him for leaving. Paul Maurice basically did the same with the Jets and both the Panthers and Jets were better for it.

He tends to have good results the first year. A good coach with a very short shelf life.

Except that one and only year with the Canucks, where he made the sedins block shots

It just shocked me to learn that Daryl Sutter and John Tortorella are the same age, 66.
Always figured Daryl was much older.

A quitter.
A quitter? All he meant was he didn't want to coach a team through a rebuilding phase.

Love Tortz . Honest, transparent and coaching F ing snowflakes. So does this mean Maurice is next because he's built in similar ways.

Sutter
Tortz
Boudreau

All coaches that players 5 plus years ago would walk through fire for or for their team mates befsuse of the principles these coaches taught.

Must be some special sauce that makes Sullivan and Cooper . Winning coaches who seemingly no one talks trash about.

Then you got scooter and pippy longstocks / glue gun up in Edmonton working for pedos /rehabs/ reclamation....what an abortionary tale .

This league and it's choices WOW.

Huska is a good coach. Seems like the assistants are good too.

Just glad we don't have an issue with our hires and how it broadcasts to the world in Calgary. Thanks Craig , Jarome for that. Breath some new fresh breathable air into our franchise....New culture and building on the way

At least Sutter threw a tantrum on his way out to get fully paid.

Tort quit with what 8 games left. Coach the season out.
