Full disclosure, I have not been able to even enter this thread for the last few weeks because I'm so distraught and upset at the current state of affairs.
And then I went and did something stupid and watched this video. The premise is one progressive/democrat being surrounded and debating 20 conservatives on a variety of issues. Hearing some of these viewpoints (xenophobic nationalism is good, gays should not exist) was incredibly disheartening to say the least. However, there is some semblance of good debate at times. Unfortunately, the conservative mind has such and earnestness to not understanding things and denying facts that it becomes ####ing mind numbing watching this ####.
Enjoy. You will not survive the night.

Look, I don't support institutionalization for the clinically insane. I don't think people should be lobotomized....but....if it were to happen to this lady, I wouldn't put up a fuss.

Jubilee's Surrounded is great. Well, some are great.
I'd highly recommend the Atheist vs 20 Christians one with Alex O'Connor.
His preparation and demeanor debating with an array of religious types while keeping things extraordinarily respectful, not personal and based in reason was inspiring to me.
He's genuinely what we should all aspire to be like when debating people with differing views from us.
One of the most inspirational people I've seen in a long time with how well he handled it.
As for that one, I struggled to get through it with how it made my head hurt.

I've seen the meme that calls her Baghdad Barbie. An homage to comparing her truth telling skills to this guy:

We'll probably see more of this as time goes on. A professor and author whose recent work has been focused on fascism has left his job at Yale to take a position at the University of Toronto. The primary reason for the move is because he wants “to raise [his] kids in a country that is not tilting towards a fascist dictatorship":
Quote:
A Yale professor who studies fascism is leaving the US to work at a Canadian university because of the current US political climate, which he worries is putting the US at risk of becoming a “fascist dictatorship”.
Jason Stanley, who wrote the 2018 book How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us and Them, has accepted a position at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.
Stanley told the Daily Nous, a philosophy profession website, that he made the decision “to raise my kids in a country that is not tilting towards a fascist dictatorship”.
He said in an interview that Columbia University’s recent actions moved him to accept the offer. Last Friday, Columbia gave in to the Trump administration by agreeing to a series of demands in order to restore $400m in federal funding. These changes include crackdowns on protests, increased security power and “internal reviews” of some academic programs, like the Middle Eastern studies department.
“When I saw Columbia completely capitulate, and I saw this vocabulary of, well, we’re going to work behind the scenes because we’re not going to get targeted – that whole way of thinking pre-supposes that some universities will get targeted, and you don’t want to be one of those universities, and that’s just a losing strategy,” he said.
from my experience in penitentiaries I was wondering why none of them whipped out their johnsons and started howling 'hey chico come suck on this!' but I'm guessing there were large CO's with cattle prods near by
So Trump was up in the middle of the night on social media having a melt down over Canada and Europe working together. He is threatening much higher tariffs if they work together against the US.
It's kind of hilarious to see a bully try to screw everyone over and then be angry if people band together to work more together instead of just accepting being bullied. He is going to devastate his own economy.
It's crazy to think how much my purchasing decisions have changed because of that moron. I was going on vacation in the States in the summer, but now going to stay in Canada instead. Almost all my groceries now are Canadian made. When I go out to a restaurant or get take out, I try to make sure it isn't American. I am trying to cancel as many streaming services based out of the US as I can.
If the majority of our country is doing the above, I can't imagine the economic repercussions it is going to have for America. I also see there is a big push to boycott USA products in EU and Australia now as well.
What an absolute joke of a president Trump is. And what a joke Americans are for not only voting him in again, but letting their country become Nazi Germany.

You know what else is messed up about the Tufts abduction video? At least 2 people are shown walking by and do absolutely nothing. That's a very very bad sign. The guy in the beginning and the person with the dog. Luckily the guy in the apartment was brave enough to record it but Americans are talking this all very passively.

Do what exactly? I would have called the police. But there are at least 3 unmarkeds and what… 8 masked “agents” with badges around their necks… I know exactly who they are and I wouldn’t go ####ing near them…

you think it can't possibly get worse, then Sarah goes "hold my burning cross". Yikes.
fascinating, yet heartbreaking. I like the Surroundings format, but this one's particularly disheartening. It's insane how divided this country seemingly had become.

Maybe because these are normal people grabbed from their homes, their workplaces, their schools, and tossed in detention centres? The don't behave like criminals because they are not criminals.

What a surprise. The same idiot who thinks that all manufacturing is just going to magically return to the U.S. within months is also surprised that other countries will work together to find mutual solutions to his stupid tariffs. Dude is just completely clueless in regards to how the world works.
