Right now I'm gathering as much cash as I can, making sure my term deposits are easily accessible so that I can jump in, probably going to wade into Canadian shares early, Fortis and the banks, that said I dont see much of an up for a year until the Orange moron calms down or dies

FWIW (which admittedly isn’t much), futures are muted and the Dow futures are up. It’s almost like the market doesn’t actually believe that Trump will do this. I’m sure the car companies might be a different story though.

I’d be tempted to not even retaliate to the vehicle tariffs. There’s not a lot of options for the US in the short term, so go ahead and pay that extra 25%.

At some point people will stop trying to analyze Trump's actions looking for some coherent plan. One day.

It's chaos all the time. So whatever strange idea since fringe nutbar suggests. Break stuff to look tough. That's it. That's the entire plan

Despite a massive cost and time commitment, auto assembly plants are easier to move compared to the plants that actually manufacture parts like engines and electronics. The US government is clearly in over its head and run by incompetent fools. Look no further than Signalgate.

Aren't like 88% of vehicles manufactured or worked on in Canada sent south? Anyone who thinks 'oh rah rah buy Canada made' with this latest round of tariffs is a moron. If the tariffs aren't removed Canada there are going to be thousands upon thousands of Canadians losing their jobs. We're already seeing that because of the steel & aluminum tariffs.

The whole thing is stupid, but Canada is going to suffer more because we have no way out with this specific round of tariffs.

Well no ####. We didn't start this fight. It certainly doesn't make us morons.

So you propose we do what?

Everyone with half a brain knows this will be detrimental to Canadian consumers and the economy.

At this point, banning them would probably save them money. Let them continue to operate. Because who is going to buy one now?

There are a lot of people in Canada running around with the elbows up mentality thinking we can go punch for punch with the Americans and win.

We won't win.

We can hurt them A LOT by not buying American and buying Canadian, yes.

But an extended amount of time with these tariffs and who knows what else coming April 2 is going to blow up the Canadian economy.

Our government needs to come to an agreement going forward.

We are also not going to be making cars in Canada to avoid any of this. Anyone suggesting that is a giant moron, Carney included. No car manufacturer is going to invest a dime in Canada knowing it costs a 25% tariff to ship their cars to the US. The fact that it was even suggested was complete stupidity, but hey gotta take advantage of naive Liberal voters.

God damnit why didn't they think of that?! What would they call it? USMCA has a pretty good ring to it.

EDIT: Stupid liberals can't even make a trade agreement...

And the agreement should be what? You understand we have a trade agreement already with him that he negotiated in his first term.

Hey, I'm well aware of this, and I also don't understand why Congress is allowing Trump to continue these tariffs when they're obviously no longer part of any national security issue.

But even with that I think we can see that nobody is going to stop him.

Nor is he going to honour USMCA.

But he's also reaching out for a reason. So there needs to be some kind of conclusion to this whole matter. Trudeau was usually able to get him to back off after a few days, so I guess we'll see if Carney has any success.

As with the tariffs he implemented in the first person, Canada was able to turn it into the USMCA agreement which was then signed and honoured until now.

That is what we need to do now as well.

Or we can go your route and throw our hands in the air and do nothing I guess.

Congress is owned by MAGA now, I wouldn't expect any help from them or the Senate. They'll do exactly what Trump wants therm to do, or they'll lose their jobs and maybe end up in prison.
