If there's a reason to call this their fault, it's not the campaign strategy. The biggest mistake the CPC and PP made was defining themselves too early, which leaves you vulnerable to a major shift in the political landscape like the tariffs and annexation threat, which made the concerns and priorities they defined themselves by seem trivial by comparison. A similar thing happened in the USA in 08 when McCain predicted, and tried to create, a foreign policy based debate and then the global financial crisis happened. But here it's even worse because of the short runway to campaign and your opponent's ability to time election day. I'm sure Harris would have loved it if they could have held theirs a few months sooner (not that it probably would have mattered).
I don't think there was much the CPC could have realistically done differently here either to prevent this downfall. With a more centrist candidate the damage might have been lessened but given what Trump did and how well Trudeau handled it, the swing seems like it was inevitable, to me.

I also think Ford was a contributing factor. When he challenged Trump by threatening to turn off the power, he set himself up as "Captain Canada". I could see the mood in Ontario change immediately from friends who said, "He's the only one standing up for Canada". Ford then picked a fight with Alberta, who was taking a different approach i.e. assumed that the best negotiating position was to sit tight, hoping Trump would ease his position on the tariffs due to flack from the people who elected him.
Also, Ford's strong election results meant Ontario was going to have a Conservative government provincially for some time, and as the province traditionally votes for the opposite party federally, along with all the other factors. the swing to the Liberals started happening.
just the way I see it

apropos of nothing, as far as surnames go:
poiLIEvre means "yellow pea"
while
Carney means "victorious"
As you were.

Would you prefer the Russians decide it instead of the liberals?

2) Carney, not being a politician, makes some big gaffes which eat into Liberal support
3) If Carney does run more as a Red Tory as it looks like he’s doing, then some of the voters they’ve pulled from the NDP and Bloc (which make up the vast majority of their resurgence) get turned off and go back to those parties.
That said, I think so far the Liberals are doing and saying the right things, while the Conservatives are doing the opposite. If the campaign continues that way then maybe we won’t see a turnaround.

I think a Con minority is still in play which doesn’t help them much. PP should do well during the debates. But they also need Trump to be quiet (and Danielle too).

Well don't they have an interview with Breitbart where Danielle claims that PP is the best to align with Trump or something like that?

Yeah even worse than that. She said she asked Trump to delay the tariffs until after the election to help PP. I’m not sure what she was thinking. Any politician should know you don’t say that kind of stuff in a public interview. I guess she felt safe because it was Breitbart and she felt she was among friends. But it’s still public.

We call this the dream melt down scenario where the NDP/Bloc prop up Carney and the cons scream it isn’t democratic.

Lots of traitors showing their cards. Time to take out the trash.

That “new direction” euphemism just kills me- “Well they tried constitutional democracy for a few centuries then thought they’d pivot a bit to Christofascist techno-utopian self-immolation.”

I do wonder if Danielle saying that Trump would prefer PP and also Trump saying he prefers PP will hurt the conservatives chances.

Is Pierre hinting at if he becomes PM, he'll get rid of, or change the security clearance process over just, you know, getting it? Why'd he say that last sentence?

An election was happening one way or another. Either a snap election called or a non-confidence. The Conservatives have been campaigning for months. The actual election campaign must fall on a Monday and last between 37 and 51 days.

I thought this might happen when I heard about Len stepping down. I didn't want to speculate because I was hoping my initial thoughts were wrong and that the riding association might have someone better lined up.
