His contract is still high but he’s become a valuable core member of this team. Probably top 5 in most valuable players this year to the team (Wolf, Kadri, Bahl, Huberdeau, Weegar).
His contract won’t look as bad in a couple of years when it’s a shorter term left and a lower relative value to the cap. If he keeps playing like this, he’ll keep playing in to the AAV more and more.
Not a boat anchor anymore and it’s been really fun to watch the transformation.

If you rank forwards in points and cap hit he's only $2M overpaid.
And as you mentioned, that could change with more cap space.

Huberdeau has been a big reason for the club being in the playoff race and he deserves full credit. Is what he doing sustainable?
Doesn’t seem likely. He is on pace for about 31 assists, which is significantly lower than his previous bad seasons. But he has shown an uncanny knack for being in the right place at the right time on the offensive end and is sporting a ridiculously high shooting percentage of 20%.
I’ll enjoy this while it’s happening but not really counting on it repeating.

I don't need this one, but I do need one for Nazem Kadri.

He's tied for 59th in the NHL with the likes of Hintz, Hischier and Miller.
That's definitely not worst contract territory, as much as OOT fans love to tout that narrative.

He's clearly worked himself out of that conversation. He's now a typical overpaid Ufa signing type of contract. That status will be cemented this off season, when it becomes clear that every first one player gets $10 million per year. $10 million is the new $7 million.
If Huberdeau finds a way to 70 points, his contact will be considered fair market value.

Hopefully we are seeing the reverse of the downward spiral and the confidence keeps building. He just seems to be getting more confident and has a positive aura about him now. You see it on the ice and in interviews.
I was really hard on him and it was really depressing to see how down he was about himself. It's a good feeling now to see him presenting a happy appearance these days.

If Huberdeau continues to perform and the team makes the playoffs, he is somewhat redeeming himself and comes off the worst contract list

Huby is awesome. I really like how he reinvented himself. Couldn’t have been easy.
You have to respect him for that.

Even in the first few seasons when he struggled, he never pouted and just kept working and I think he's adjusted his game and turned into more of a leader. The contract is what it is, but he's starting to show his worth as it seems the team started to play better once he returned from injury as he's hit the scoresheet in six straight games and that's a big deal for the lowest scoring team in the league.
