Default Sometimes, Calgarians are really great

Just read Flip's "I got jumped" thread and thought I'd counter with a good account of the people here. It's nothing major, but it shows that there are still some good souls left in the city.

I lost my wallet on Friday morning. I was in the Co-op parking lot at about 11:00, going to the Scotiabank to deposit a cheque. The bank didn't open till 12 Friday, and I had to go across town, so I left. My wallet fell out of my pocket on my way back to the car. Obviously I didn't notice.

I found out about an hour later (when I was already across town and tied up for the day). So I cancelled all my cards etc, figuring the wallet was gone forever. But when I got back home around 5:00 I called Co-Op customer service just to check.

Someone had actually taken my wallet in!

I couldn't believe it. I guess I was lucky that an honest person was the first to stumble upon my wallet; it could have easily been someone else who would have taken my Visa to town at my expense.

So yeah, not really a big deal but it's just nice to know that there are still good people around here.

So, many thanks to whoever was at the Richmond Road Co-op and did something honest. If you are that person, or know that person, let me know and there will be free drinks involved.

I couldn't possibly imagine picking up someone's lost wallet and not turning it in. I would still like to think that MOST of the population would, but of course you would fear the worst.

Question for you- how hard was it to "un-cancel" your credit cards?

That's always been a fear of mine- ending up spending more time trying to re-activate stuff.

This happened to my girlfriend when she lost her Visa. You can't un-cancel it. Once you've cancelled it, you have to wait for the new card to arrive.

Yep. Very easy to cancel, but then it's (she said) a seven "banking-day" wait til your shiny new card arrives in the mail.

With the debit card, I just went to the bank after I picked up my wallet and got a new card right away.

I forgot to tell my little story of this summer...

I go to timmy's every morning, and it usually differs location as to where i'm working that day. Anyway, one morning, I ordered my usual coffee and got one of those breakfast sausage things. I can remember noticing that the lady working the speaker never said how much it was. As I got to the window, I handed her my money, and she said don't worry about it, the person ahead of me paid for it. I ask what the hell, and offered to leave the money for her for the next day. The lady at the counter said that this woman goes to Timmy's every morning and always buys whatever the car behind her orders, no matter what. I expressed my gratitude and asked she be thanked for me.

I drove away, and it easily made my day.

That's called "Pay it Forward"...sort of an opposite of "payback"...the reasoning behind it is that sometime you go to Timmies and will Pay it Forward, and then it will happen to someone else & they'll do it to someone else too.

It's happened to me a couple of times at Tim's so I've done the same thing too. It actually makes you feel good making someone's day.

That was me Rockstar - I came across a wallet on my way to Coop that morning as well and handed it to the Scotiabank desk.
