Vancouver or Calgary would need to catch them

If the Flames go on a streak and win the next 3, coupled with Oilers losing the next 3, the Flames would be 4 points back going into the H2H game next Saturday, with a game in hand.

There was a very controversial trade in our pool, that involved McDavid for Hutson. McDavid will be out the first round of our playoffs....karma! And E=NG.

Here is to the Oilers falling out of a playoff spot. That would be beautiful.

I wonder if this pretty much locks in the Art Ross for MacKinnon then

They're going to give it to McDavid or Draisatl anyway because they would have finished 1-2 by a huge margin if it weren't for dirty players trying to intentionally injure the legendary Oilers duo. It's only fair. They'll split the Art Ross while one gets the Hart and the other gets the Ted Lindsay.

I guess it depends on just how bad the team is without those two.
I'd wager it's pretty bad. Worse than CGY & VAN.

This is unlikely but say this happens and Oilers move from 16th pick to 6th. The pick is top 12 protected but Oilers have traded 2026 first round pick already.
So does Philly get unprotected 2026 and Sharks get unprotected 2027 or does Philly now get 2025 6th pick and Sharks retain 2026 first round pick with conditions.
Just curious as I can’t find any provisions for this scenario.

According to CapWages, the Oilers trading their 2026 first to San Jose made this year's 1st unconditional. So here's hoping they somehow miss and win the lottery!

Oilers missing the playoffs would be worth the risk...especially if the Flames were the team that past them

As FanSince'01 points out, they've already traded their 1st-round pick this year – unconditionally. They have also traded their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Their only picks in 2025 are their 6th and 7th and St. Louis's 3rd.
I think it would be utterly hilarious if the Oilers won the draft lottery and Philadelphia, Utah, San Jose, Tampa Bay, and Anaheim all got better picks as a result.

The draft lottery only affects the 1st round. Would still be funny though

What a pity, in the circumstances.

One more McEra Oilers collapse, baby. Let's see it!
1st round exit or out entirely.

Thanks for answering that. If the Oilers did win the draft lottery, and since teams can only win the lottery twice in 5 years, which team would this lottery win be charged to? Oilers or Flyers?
