Default WTB- 32" LCD/LED "Dumb" TV

We are looking for a TV for the bedroom; and of course the challenge is any newer smart TV seems to have the sleep timer buried deep within a menu system. Previous TVs just had a single button on the remote to activate the sleep timer.

Hoping somebody has a 32" TV that is less than 10 years old that is just sitting there waiting for a new purpose. Preference would be Sony, Samsung or Sharp as I have extra remotes for those, but would be willing to look at other brands. I don't want anything from the RCA family.

In the past I have bought a few older 32" TVs from other CPers; of course the challenge is sometimes those TVs will fail sooner than I would like.

Please PM if you have something.

Just a thought: is it easier to put whatever TV on a smart outlet that you could turn off with timer in app / voice assistant?

I had thought of that. The problem is that either involves going into my phone to set it (so just as many steps)- or potentially waking up my wife to tell Alexa to turn off the TV in 45 minutes.

Your Echo doesn't have whisper mode?

It's possible that if you found a new TV that actually has a sleep timer function (not just a power off after X hours of no usage) you might be able to use an older remote for that brand that has a sleep button on it.

I have an older Samsung and a newer Samsung and the old hundred buttons remote works perfectly fine on my newer Samsung.

Unfortunately there's no sleep timer button, nor sleep timer on the newer Samsung so I can't do you a test run but with some sleuthing you could probably find the right brand to do this with.

Not sure you want to be cutting power to your TV everyday. It's meant to be put into its standby mode and abruptly killing power would be hard on it.

My old Samsung remote looks exactly like this but where the sleep button is, mine says menu. So it's probably possible to set it from remote on some models.

I actually bought those same remotes from Amazon. On my older Samsung TV (about 9 years old) it does toggle through the sleep functions. On my newer Samsung TVs it does skip a step so instead of Menu-clock-timers it does go right into the sleep timer. However setting the timer does still involve a little bit of navigation; and then exiting back out twice.

I did find one older Samsung last week on Kijiji, however knowing that TV is likely approaching the end of it's lifespan I wouldn't mind having a spare on standby still.

Yes, I realize I am being a little old, but I will hang onto this way of doing things as long as I can while continuing to yell at my clouds.

I hear ya, the simpler the better. Especially for a task you probably want to do every night. I have an 27" Toshiba LCD in my rec room that has a sleep timer and sleep timer button on the remote. If you can convince my wife to let me buy a new TV it's all yours.

I have one of these.

It's more than 10 years old but it hasn't been turned on for probably 5 years at least and worked fine last time it was on. I have the remote and the specs say it has a sleep timer. If you're interested I'll drag it out and test it to make sure.
