That's exactly how I see it as well - other teams matching the Flames' effort level is making wins much harder to come by. Let's see how they respond tomorrow.

Weird part, I didn't think any of the allowed goals against Wolf were bad goals

My guess, he was pulled to keep Wolf fresh for the game tonight

Leafs had really high grade scoring chances,

Those types are going to go in,

I totally agree with this writeup. This is the time of the season where teams are jockeying for playoff position, not taking games for granted and to be fair to this edition of the Flames, far more talented Flames rosters over the last 20 years have wilted down the stretch this time of year nearly annually. I'm just not sure how much there is left to milk out of this roster when they are facing teams that aren't taking them for granted.

Wolf allowed 5 in 2 periods with an expected goals against of 3.

I agree, none were bad goals per see, but the expectation was that he should have stopped some of them.

Islanders back to two games over .500 (team 23) so Flames need to go 6-9-1 (.406) to get into a tie for the 10th draft pick (84 points)

That is seemingly less daunting suddenly.

Looking the other way ... Flames need to go 8-5-3 (.594) to get to 90 points, which is the current pace to be better than Vancouver.

Guessing that plateau moves up with four teams fighting for it. If it moves to say 92 Calgary would need to go 9-4-3.

Big game tonight, and things look pretty bleak with a loss.

It seems like there's more teams in that mushy middle this season that aren't flat out terrible but not good enough to make the playoffs.

Watch the goals, not sure which of the five should have been stopped,

Those type of stat's don't represent the game properly IMO.

Powerplay goals, times by 3 were really good shots, that were quick (no chance for the goalie)

If the Flames/Islanders tie for 10th, who currently owns the tie-break?

I'm not nitpicking the guy, but I'm pretty sure he'd like to have goals 4 and 5 back.

I'm not saying they should have been stopped.

But they could have been stopped.

Even on a break-a-way, a goalie stops about 70% of them. Should they be stopped? No, but they certainly could be.

I agree though that the advanced stats aren't necessarily great for one game. But over a larger sample size, they become more accurate.

Wolf didn't have a great game, as he wasn't a difference maker.

But I agree he didn't have a terrible game either.

Said in the other thread - he was a bit of a factor on the second goal, by moving to get the puck behind the net, which froze Huberdeau for a second, but then he changed his mind.

Edit: I may be mixing up goals but I'm sure everyone knows the one I'm talking about.

First goal was a great shot - can't do anything there

The second goal was a bad rebound.

Neither the 3rd nor the 4th goal were great.

On Matthew's 2nd one, Wolf didn't have his stick on the ice to cover the 5 hole.

It was a bad night for him. It happens.

The Islanders with more ROW.

But the Islanders will need to get 3 more points than Calgary to end at their level.

I assume that would clearly make them the team ahead in the standings based on tiebreakers.

Head to head game on Saturday could pretty much take care of that.
