That was the biggest blindside of the TV audience ever. Lots of speculation on Ben...he says injury/sickness but the fact they don't mention anything on the show leads me to believe there is more to it.

Considering PD tore his bicep and stayed in the game!

Ya, usually you get a backstory or see events leading up to leaving the game. Weird.

I read on reddit some speculation that he might be suing them over the injury, which is why they didn't show it and why he was such a minor part of the edit. Did he even have a single confessional? He threw multiple challenges, so you would think they would talk to him about those in confessionals. And I also don't think we ever got his 'origin story' video that most/all other contestants get in the first few episodes. Apparently this happed with a former contestant and similarly they didn't show on screen the injury happening.

He came across as a dbag, would have liked to see him get blindsided the old fashioned way. Pretty sure everyone on the show knows what they are sighing up for if he is trying to sue them it seems pretty lame to me.

He posted a video on Instagram

https://thedirect.com/article/austra...leave-show-why

The contestant admitted to the game being "bloody tough" and revealed he tore a calf muscle during one of the challenges:

"Playing 'Survivor' is bloody tough. I was mentally and physically exhausted... I tore my calf muscle in that epic water challenge when Myles aced all the goals. It wasn't shown much on the TV show but it was a tricky injury and something I had to battle through"

Bylett added that "consecutive rainy nights" on Brains Beach added to his physical problems:

"After moving to Brains Beach my main issue became, after sleeping in a puddle in a corner of the pig pen for a few consecutive rainy nights I got really sick."

The final straw came after the Hoop challenge, during which Bylett said he "re-tweaked [his] calf muscle" and started to realize "something was pretty wrong:"

"Long story short, after my wrestle with AJ in the Hoop challenge I re-tweaked my calf muscle, and I couldn't catch my breath for hours afterward. I realized something was actually pretty wrong with me."

Upon returning home, Bylett revealed he was treated for "severe pneumonia:"

"Unfortunately, for me, I was put on the next plane home and treated for what turned out to be pretty severe pneumonia. I've had a few months of recovery which I'm still working through now six months later."

Bylett recollected his demanding experience on the show, adding that he lost almost 30 pounds in three weeks and went into Australian Survivor with the Ross River virus:

"13 kilograms lost in 24 days, tore my calf muscle, lost half a tooth, came home with pneumonia, and to top it off it looks like I went on the show with Ross River fever as well. Survivor's no joke, it's a real challenge."

Following a very physically demanding set of injuries and illnesses, it's no surprise Bylett chose to depart Australian Survivor to prioritize his health.

Thanks for posting this info. Still seems weird to me that they minimized his participation so much. Maybe he was just really boring in his confessionals.

Me too. Though I really wanted him to take Logans Idol or at least make her feel uncomfortable enough to flush it. She is just so smug. Sucks that PD got the axe but he basically couldn't do anything with that injury. Really gracious exit.

Also, I thought Paulie asking if he has any friends and not one person putting up their hand was tragic. Though Myles saving him must have felt pretty nice.

What are people's opinion of Paulie? Is he the Snake Oil Salesman they are making him out to be in your opinion?

Really sucks about PD but the moment he went down I knew he wasn't going to win the game.

It seems every 3rd season of survivor I pick someone that gets injured

I'm surprised they let him stay in it but it was likely a numbers requirement so close to merge and with Ben disappearing maybe they needed him. He was basically cooked with that injury though. I would have liked to see Zen get the same chance to continue but it's up to the medical staff to determine what constitutes as a need for medical withdrawal.

Agreed, PD had to go with that injury, was a great move by Myles and should propel him to the top, although the girls are going to be very angry LOL.
I don't get the Paulie hate, unless there is stuff we havent seen behind the scenes, there are certainly bigger snakes, like JD for instance.
Should be some good hissy fits tonight.

In the “ballsiest” move this season, Myles steals Christian’s idol and then goes against pretty much the entire group and proceeds to save Paulie. It appears everyone was getting a little too comfortable and this type of change up was probably needed. Love the result and luckily he has another idol to keep his momentum rolling.

jg13 takes a first hit with PD being blindsided!

The one thing I like about Au survivor is that they allow you a chance to come back, even if injured. If you get the sniffles in the US version you’re basically saying goodbye.

Great episode last night as the newly crowned Myles seems to be taking over the game. Once again it was awesome watching Logan get her ^#&# handed to her after her cocky prediction that she would break up the Myles/AJ team. Karin may have made a mistake letting Logan know she should play her idol. Bubye to the coven leader, Laura!
