Default Live Free or Die Hard

First off, I am the biggest Die Hard fan, so it would be hard for me to hate this movie. Die Hard is easily my favorite series.

So I went and saw it last night and I thought it was one of the best pure action popcorn fluff movies I have seen in a long time. It was way over the top even for a die hard movie, but that was okay. The moment you start thinking to yourself, "That could never happen!!" you're missing the damn point. I thought Bruce was fine, although, John McLane seemed to have lost some of his swagger. There was a couple good one liners, Justin Long was good. The villain was alright I guess, not as sadistic as Jeremy Irons or Alan Rickman, but those would have been big shoes to fill for anyone.

When I heard this movie was a PG-13 rating(in the US, 14A in Canada), I was pretty upset, but I didn't think the movie lost much by not having any F words or any gore. There was still plenty of killing and plenty of explosions to keep you occupied. Reading the IMDB boards, people were trying to petition the studio for them to release a R rated version and I can't do anything but roll my eyes at the idiots.

I hate comparing sequels to predeccesors, I would rather review a movie on its own merit, but if I had to, I would say it had the best action of the four, although, the first was the best overall movie.

7.5/10

Excellent review... mainly because you've convinced me to watch it, without giving anything away!

I hate all the stuido big-wigs who demand movies meet a PG-13 rating so that they can tap into the teen market. These days there is a lot more that you can get away with and still get a PG-13 rating, but some movies just shouldn't have to meet that low rating.

How did they fit in McLeans classic line if they don't let at least one F-bomb in? If they nerfed the line just for the PG-rating then that's pretty sad.

It's like how they cut a Christina Ricci nude scene out of Cursed so they could meet a studio-imposed PG-13 rating. Sons of motherless dogs...

Im excited to see this movie though. I was pretty much expecting it to be like you described it, over the top action.

pg-13 movies allow one f bomb.....if you're expecting to see over the top action, you will love this movie.

Alright I did see the movie last night. And I have to say I agree with everyone else, it was way over the top but it was the best action movie I have seen in a while. I would even say that is the most entertained I have been at a movie in a year or two.

The classic line is in the movie, for those who are worried. What a great show. Totally unbelievable yet it doesn't matter in this series how unbelievable it is.

I heard that Bruce Willis is already joking around about them being in discussions for the 5th movie.

I totally agree on this one!! WAAAAAY better than i thought it would be!!

I would suggest people go in with really low expectations and then they are pretty much guarenteed to leave happy!

It is what it is and nothing more, but it does 'it' VERY well....

The movie was a typical guy flick

WARNING: SPOILER

For any other nerdy kid, you probably had to laugh at the fighter jet firing at the semi. **** the missles, I'm going for the machine gun And I'm pretty sure fighter jets can't hover, fixed wing can't do that (only rotary wing can). I learned today that you can get vertical lift by having some intense feedback control on your thrust, but I've never seen it. And the fighter jet (was it a F-22?) ... fixed wing can't do that either.

I thought the gangsta style shooting was pretty funny. At least it wasn't gangstans holding them sideways and firing them. When you see people try and pull those kind of shots at the firing range, its kinda funny.

And at the end... damn, I should have been a computer engineer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-35_Lightning_II is the jet that was featured, some of the rumors surrounding the program was that it was supposed to be a replacement for the F-18 for the CAF.

Anyways, most of the computerese in the movie is about as accurate as Swordfish, good concepts, not very accurately executed or portrayed.

However that isn't the reason why I went to see it, as the killing the Heli with a car was simply one of the best lead ups that I've seen. Anyways, really good action movie, although there seems to be instead of the big bad henchman, they've now been replaced by the parkour henchman.

I loved it! Over the top, non-stop action with John McLane getting himself into one ridiculous situation after another. The best part is when he's fighting that acrobatic dude in the freezer - "OK Hamster Boy...." LOL

I know why i never go to movies. The chance to hear some "f-bombs" and "plenty of killing" just isn't a big draw for me.

I liked the stunts, but there was way too many plot holes in this one. The whole sequence in the tunnel was ######ed, first of all, don't most cars have daytime headlights? And if all the lights went out in a tunnel, wouldn't you turn on your headlights anyways? Not to mention slowing down. And I'm no expert in helicopter aviation, but I'd imagine it's no easy task to fly from West Virginia (The Mountain State) to Baltimore, Maryland. And why was the end of the movie in LA? How did they even get to LA? Did they drive the trucks across the continent?
On the positive, the Imac guy was less annoying than usual.

People watch Die Hard to look for plot holes? I was having fun at the theatre, not worrying about plot holes.
