Not sure if the Flames would take the skill out of it,
However, I don't believe its a myth, I remember the Wild of old, nothing but a defensive lockdown, really hard game to watch...
No one, wanted to attend those games, when they were in town.

The idea that coaches instruct to not be creative in the offensive zone is such a silly over played myth by hockey fans.

So coaches don’t instruct guys to make the safe play? What are the Flames doing right now? They play a terrible brand of hockey that is all about being safe.
When you get a player with this much talent you will have live with some of the mistakes because the good will outweigh the few turnovers.

If a team lacks offensive skill and has to rely on defense to win games they do it.
But that's not talking all world offensive players and dumbing them down.

I said in the offensive zone.
If you have F3 coverage a defenseman can take all the chances they want.
The Flames, for example have a very active blueline pinch with all six coming down the wall to keep pucks in and the likes of Hanifin and Andersson taking it right around the net and out the other side.
They play the only brand of hockey they can play to have a chance.

Oh and I think the Tkachuk thing was more from teammates then the team or a coaching staff.
He was younger, and needed to learn to pick his spots.

Not sure that is correct, a totally defensive minded team, will dumb down some of the offense,
They won't allow, odd man rushes, that a team like Avalanche etc. will allow.
A top line player for the Flames moving to a offensive minded team, would generate more points etc...

I'm pretty sure.
You coach a team without much talent to keep things regimented in their own zone because you can't give up more than 2 or you're cooked.
Once you take the line you don't coach down players, you let them do their thing.
But if you lack those players than there isn't much to dumb down, which is pretty much the teams you are talking about.
Hard to dumb down dumb!

I think that is basically correct, although we don't really have any top line players.
Our top line is there because we are missing a first line.
Of course, if our top line moved to a more offensive team, they would no longer be getting the premium ice time and PP time, so I doubt they would get more points, probably less. Points are often about opportunity and usauge.

Agreed.
Huberdeau would have more points on a team with better transitory hockey players and team speed.
The Flames don't have a lot of that so they have to play a certain way.
Lack of transition means less time in the offensive zone.
A high transition team would mean more time in the offensive zone.

Zayne should help the transition. A bunch of guys in the system should help in that area. Not just the first pass but skating the puck out of danger and the d zone.

Look at Hughes under Tocchet - he is as systems oriented as any coach in the league. But systems are for when the other team has the puck. In the offensive zone, with the puck, players do what they do.
I mean, look at Andersson - he has a green light to do whatever he wants offensively. Unfortunately, he can't do some of the things that Hughes and Parekh can do. But he still has a green light.
Fans read WAY too much into coaching styles (which actually don't differ too much across the league, other than zone vs man-ton-man)

With all the hub bub around Zayne, let’s not forget Brzustewicz is also in the pipeline.

Conroy spoke about this when he took over as the GM before promoting Huska (and I believe afterwards as well). He wants the Flames to play a structured defensive system, but allow for the players to have the freedom in the offensive zone to be creative. He stated this in numerous interviews. I believe he also stated that Parekh will need to be given the freedom offensively to do what he is great at in the NHL. I don't really think we need to worry about Parekh playing with a short leash and with handcuffs on.

It's been said in multiple interviews that Parekh studies tape on Makar by himself and in conjunction with Director of player development. They are modeling his game after him. Sounds pretty good to me.

You're right, only because Parekh is such an elite prospect. Brzustewicz is simply a really good prospect but with Parekh we don't need Brzustewicz to be top pair, we need him or Mews to be exceptional 2nd pair RD. If both pop then our defense is gonna put up alot of points.

Yeah you can see a lot of Makar in his game. Don’t know if anyone can ever skate like Makar he’s probably the best skater I’ve ever seen.
