i feel like my skiing days are over, would the best solution to sell my equipment be the Max Bell sale at the beginning of the ski year? i assume they still have that sale each year?

You see this occasionally at crappy small resorts with old lifts and bad maintenance practices but KHMR?
This is legit shocking (the arm itself broke in half, not the grip) but Murray's been doing the bare minimum for maintenance at his resorts for years now. They're so lucky this happened as the gondola was leaving the station and not over one of the many high altitude / steep drops along the route or over the grizzly bear enclosure.

It's not even close to the first gondola drop in the RCR network though - both Tremblant and Mont-Sainte-Anne have had gondola incidents in the last few years including one each that resulted in fatalities / sever injuries. In Quebec they're even talking about removing RCR as an operator due to breach of contract (the government owns the resort itself and licenses operations out to RCR).

I for one am very glad we're giving this human, who has shown nothing but the finest of character, hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to build and profit off an arena in our city.

It’s not just Murray. It’s all resorts basically. I wouldn’t be surprised to see places shutting down soon.

I’ve had pretty good luck on Facebook but you have to go through the requisite pain that entails.

Great day at Whistler, all week has been dumping. Hopefully it holds on for a good spring

At least that's how I assume it goes these days with how hard it is to find the information on resort websites.

$300 ish at the ticket window. Annual pass is like 1500.

There’s some ways to get some cheaper passes but I don’t know em off hand, I just get a season pass

Looks like the Beckhams have taken quite a liking to Fernie. I think this is 2 years in a row which they have done a ski trip there.

There’s been an avalanche at Lake Louise this afternoon at around 3:45 pm - at least one person is missing.

Tragic, was outside the ski area of the resort. Pipestone bowl, not sure where exactly that is.

When youhead to Boomerang, instead of rounding the bend go straight, and lookover the ridge. It always looks tempting, but you can end up way down with no quick return, so I've never done it.

The easiest way to describe it is if you went as far to the end of west bowl as possible and kept going. Apparently it happened while they were on the traverse back to the resort.

Interesting piece of info there, LL has been very clear this was out of bounds, but sounds like if so there was some trail marking going on. If it’s discovered LL has been covertly doing that and winking at people skiing there it’s a big problem.

I don't think flagging a traverse is really winking at people skiing there, for one thing I imagine there is hiking there in the summer.

But not of asphyxiation. The other skier managed to find them with a transceiver search and get them out, they later died, presumably of trauma (lots of trees and stuff to get dragged over there). Has to be horrible to do all the work to find and save your buddy only for it not to matter... good effort by that dude regardless, he did what he could.

This is why I always thought wilderness first aid was something that people should take along with AST1. Sometimes it's better to clear the airway and leave the person buried otherwise until help gets there, because the set snow is acting as a tourniquet. Obviously don't know whether that was the case here, may have been nothing anyone could have done differently that would have produced a different result.

Looking at the accident location, it's definitely out of the area, but it would still make sense for it to be flagged for safety reasons, as going deeper and missing the traverse could lead to dangerous situations given the long exit. Did LL flag it? Could have been other users or perhaps Parks.

Fair that it could’ve been others, wasn’t trying to throw shade at LL just that there is a possibility. I’m sure it’s going to be investigated.
