Week to Week is bad news for backlund.
Hopefully he can get cleared for the playoffs.

Because he is a pure offensive player, does not fit Huska's system.

He got filled in.
Worst forward all season in xGF%
Highest xGA60
Got a taste, sees what he needs to do at this level, back to the AHL to learn.

I don't think that's fair.
He played five games. Three in the top nine, and two on the fourth line.
He excelled when playing in a role his skillset is suited for, and got filled in playing with the muckers on the 4th line.
Actually - after looking deeper into it he really only struggled in very limited minutes alongside a struggling Kuzmenko, and never really saw time with Lomberg/Rooney.

I believe Kerins sample size was too small to write him off that quickly. With both Backs and Zary out they’ll need someone taking draws. Rory makes sense in my opinion.

Lol at bringing up Hunt. He’s good in the ahl but it has never translated to the nhl. I would hope the only reason they picked him was the call up was going to be eating popcorn , so might as well let youngsters play in ahl.

Hunt is replacing Backlund's spot, or at least replacing someone's spot who jumps into Backlund's spot.

for me the big difference is foot speed. Kerins just doesn't have NHL pace, yet ( hopefully)
Hunt is a speedster, more than that he brings 231 games of NHL experience.

I agree with you that for some aspects, small sample size can be misleading. Having trouble finishing, rushing with the puck, general jitters etc...
But when you're clearly behind the play and struggling to physically catch up, that doesn't require a large sample size imo.

I imagine Frost moves into Backlund's spot.
Huberdeau-Kadri-Coronato
Coleman-Frost-Farabee
Hunt-Sharangovich-Pospisil
Lomberg-Rooney-Klapka
That's pretty rough.

Every time I see a player is out with a UBI, my first thought is "I hope he drinks lots of cranberry juice."
Although, I've also heard that cranberry juice doesn't actually help with a UTI.

He hasn't been good when called up. The stats support it.

It's an emergency callup and Hunt has 231 NHL games to Kerins 5. It's pretty much as simple as that, IMO.

All that we can really take away from the stats was that he was a really, really poor fit with Kuzmenko who is no longer here.
Not sure why Huska felt the need to split Pelletier and Kerins when they were absolutely buzzing together.

I'm certainly not writing him off.
Yeah he only played 2 minutes with Lomberg and 1 minute with Rooney.
So that wouldn't have skewed his 50 minutes of ice time that dramatically.
Sharangovich and Pelletier were his two most frequent wingers.
The eye test showed a guy that was uncertain and slow footed after a great first period against a bad Blackhawks team.
