- A roster player who was truly waiver fodder with limited upside (low value), don't get me wrong I love pelts but when you take off the rose colored glasses, he is not anything special and holds very little value as an asset.
- A second round pick (only real value) which, based on statistics, was most likely to never make an impact in the NHL.
Like if anyone on this sub was asked before the trade, "what do you think it would take to land frost & Farabee", what would any of us answered??? A second round pick and two 0 impact players would not have been it!

It’s a good trade for Calgary because of the upside these players have, and the cap room Flames have.
Flyers were willing to walk away from both of them, and that’s not for nothing.
Let’s give it a season to see if they can settle in and rebound their careers before we call this trade a big win. So far Frost and Farabee have been better than the guys we sent Flyers but that’s not saying much.

I have really liked Farabee's game lately. Nice blend of skill and jam and was working well with Backlund and Coleman. I feel that both will be key 2nd and 3rd line players for years with the Flames and would do the trade again in a heartbeat.

Torts needs to be retired. He had a good final run in Columbus, but he's no longer an effective coach and has an extremely destructive effect on a team's composition and asset pool.

This kind of feels like the opposite of a win/win trade, at least for this season. Pelletier was on track before the deal, and now seems a little lost in the wilderness again. I was hoping Frost and Farabee would pop in the new surroundings, but they've only shown glimpses. I'm quite willing to be patient with them both and hope that they look better next season after a full training camp with the group under their belt and more familiarity with their teammates.
It's hard to predict how people will react to be being dealt. Some don't miss a beat. Others...not so much.

They'll likely both be middle-six guys going forward leaving ample room for posters here to debate that they're either great or awful.

^ I wonder if CGY could bring pelts back this season for something like a 4th round pick. Obviously he wouldn't be eligible for the playoffs, but he could be a great bottom 6 option for the last 18 games and into next season.

Why bring him back at any point? He's a fringe NHL player at this point and the Flames have better prospects in their system. It would be foolish to surrender any draft picks to bring him back. Maybe if he hits waivers at some point if the Flames want to take a look but it's time to move on.

I'm well aware, thank you. For some reason I thought it only prevented players from playing in the playoffs, like it works in the AHL, so yeah an honest mistake.
As for Pelletier, I still think he would be a great addition next year, especially if you could get him for cheap.

Unfortunately, he is a midget with skills enough for the AHL, just like his buddy Matt Phillips
He’ll get a couple more shots because he was a high pick but nobody is going to pay anything for that

I think he could carve out a career for himself in the bottom 6 similar to other smaller guys like Byron or Mangiapane.
He looked really good during his call up with the Flames. He put up 11 points, all even strength in 24GP. In comparison, Zary has 15 even strength points in 49GP, and Coronato has 20 points in 59GP.
I'm not saying he's better than either Zary or Coronato, and he was definitely on a heater, while playing sheltered minutes, but he was one of the most productive forwards for CGY at even strength. Plus I loved his attitude, and how his positivity rubbed off on the team.

I wonder if they even qualify Pelletier as a RFA this summer. If you can grab him as a cheap RFA in the summer...sure.

If flyers put him on waivers could we claim him and use him for playoffs?
One thing I see us missing from him is his speed..

I just read up on it when looking up if you could make trades after the deadline.
Teams can still waive players after the trade deadline. However, if they’re claimed, the player is automatically ineligible to play for the remainder of the season.

If we can recoup him in the summer (as in not qualified) I'd give him another shot here.
