The fact that they're still running this gameplan, instead of going after Trump, tells me all I need to know about how much resistance PP is going to provide against Trump.

Ford has no national appeal. Much of Ontario can't stand him, but hated the other options more.
I'm pretty sure he can't speak French, so he'll get crushed in Quebec and parts of Atlantic Canada.
He might get some momentum in the prairie provinces, but he has no chance of making inroads in the more progressive areas of BC.

Ford has been building national appeal since he somehow managed to be the first Premier to stand up to Donald. If we were talking about Smith, I'd be more inclined to agree with you.
If Ford has shown anything, it's that he's very clever politically. If he could pull the CPC closer to the center and do away with a lot of the extreme elements that put centrist and left-of-center types off of voting for the present-day CPC, he'd clean up.

Rube, I think you're behind the times in that assessment. Ford's strong man act against trump is playing extremely well across the country right now. He's caught the wind on this more than any other politician in the country. He's also playing it very stately and not only bringing ontario to the table when he makes public statements.

I feel like once Poilievre realized best case Ontario was gonna be minority PM, he decided to straight up lose. Being the PM of impotent minority government does nothing for him, and is just a matter of time until he loses anyway. Losing straight up now and going straight into the right wing griftsphere is way more profitable.

As Frum observed in the interview I linked to, Canadian voters do not want a Canadian Trump. Parroting his slogans is idiotic. Carney’s team are rubbing their hands over this stuff - the attack ads write themselves.

Ford's an excellent politician (viewing politician as a job not in a 'agree with his ideology/policies) and appears to play really well in a crisis. He's always at ground zero of whatever broad issue is unfolding impacting Ontarians and manages to be seen to be 'doing something about it' in a way that appears very 'Joe Everyman.' He's also very practical in crisis responses that are not ideological. I find in those moments he has people who typically associate as Liberal or NDP voters saying 'I hate to say it but I agree with Doug Ford.'

I wonder if the Russians have turned Poilievre into an asset the way they did with Trump. I'll also be interested to see if Musk tries to use his #### platform to try and sway our election.

I would like to see internal use of natural Gas by all cities moving to NG fleet vehicles and buses to offset the carbon footprint that each household emits by having to have a gas/diesel vehicle.
I'd like to see export pipeline capacity but I'd also like to see refinery capacity built in Sask/AB, I'd like to see the NG moratorium for NG development taken off NB & NS,
I want a Government that will work for the Country, not for votes and their own interests. I'm a realist enough to realize this wont happen in my lifetime but the potential is there.

I would like to see a refinery built in Quebec the size of the ones in Edmonton or Regina

Quite possibly and absolutely yes.
No wonder PP won’t get his security clearance re: foreign interference.

In spite of the parroting slogans, do you think the voting public are dumb enough to believe that PP is about to behave like Trump?. Who would you say is the Musk equivalent? And who are the wealthy, influential men who surround him.

He was amazingly (surprisingly?) empathetic during the early days of the pandemic and dropped any partisanship wot work closely with the Feds. That was my first inkling that I didn't have to always hate him.

I think both may try. That will hurt him by association to anyone older who is paying attention, but I worry about the younger cohorts. They favour the CPC even in recent polls, and were mobilized in the US election, if we are to believe the narrative. I wonder if we'll see $1M 'random giveaways' for Canadians who sign up to support .... the charter of rights and freedoms I guess?
