Also the French café, wine bar, and speakeasy. All of these in small renoed ‘cottages’ while the rest of Marda is getting torn down and replaced by multi-story condos and rentals. 19-storey towers are coming.

Good news is Leonard corp who renoed all these spaces has three more in progress in the same strip.

Hadn't been to Marda Loop in a few years but have been following the progress on Skyrise Cities and decided to check it out this morning. When we ordered at Bonjour it was only a 20 min wait so I was likely there half an hour before you took this picture. Loved the reno to that space with the covered and heated area between the buildings.

Told my wife we might look to moving here if we move in a few years but holy hell, dunno if it's normal but the car traffic felt crazy - lots of speeding, honking, weaving, just general impatience in that area.

That's not true. I read on the internet you can't park there anymore, and traffic is so bad that no one will go there ever again.

I don't find there's a lot of traffic but there are a lot of impatient drivers, blocking the road, speeding, ignoring pedestrians, etc. Thursday night someone parked blocking 34th to go into one of the shops and everything came to a stand still. The mainstreets work is sitll only half done too, so people end up parking on the sidewalk or in the crosswalks without knowing.

Fortunately I walk almost everywhere so I don't find the traffic to be an issue. But I know some people hate using their legs.

I think it's been open about 2 or maybe 2.5.
They did the same thing with the new one way down south. Opened and closed in about a year. Weird.

I live in Richmond. Its close enough/far enough from Marda to enjoy the places but not as much traffic. That whole area several blocks north and south of 33rd is a nightmare. Its an area with lots of self important folks crammed in infills. I noticed how different going to Safeway Marda was vs Sunnyside Safeway. Good bad indifferent the vibe is opposite.

It was posted in here but I can't find it. What American chain was going into the old Ginger Beef lot in the Shanks parking lot on McLeod, again?

The first place I rented when I moved out in 1990 was in Altadore. Back then it was a cheap, sleepy part of town. Lots of affordable rentals, seniors who have been living in the same bunglow for 40 years, etc. The original Tropicana (when it was a genuine biker bar), Dal’s Chicken, the old Altadore Safeway, Casablanca video, Kathmandu Cafe.

Very different vibe now, obviously. They did a great job with Garrison Woods, and the Marda Loop area is an obvious candidate for densification. But the traffic problems aren’t going to go away. Most people who live there or visit to go to a restaurant still drive cars. A buddy in my gaming group lived on 34th ave last year, and we stopped doing game nights at his place because of the hassle of needing to park 3 blocks away.
