My counter is, bring more to the conversation than vitriol and hatred.
We have pages and pages of people calling their own family members, neighbors, coworkers, etc evil, "should burn in hell", reprehensible, unredeemable.
It's two sides of the same coin when you look at every situation in a binary though pattern.
So many posters in this thread are saying "You don't think like me, so you are wrong/bad/evil".
That is the exact same thought pattern of the people they purport to despise.
It's nonsensical.
These people have shown time and again that rational conversation is impossible. They are not living in anything that resembles reality. They are locked in a social media, algorithm driven bubble. Even if you had a psychology degree with a focus on cult deprogramming I don't know how you expect to get anywhere with these folks. Like other cults we've seen the only thing that will end it is the end of the cult itself.
Seriously, what are you supposed to try and do with someone like this? You think you can "conversation" them into reality? Maybe ignoring them would be better in your view than slandering them, but believing there's a sweet spot to having rational conversations with irrational people is hoping for a miracle.

I don't see the issue with him saying that she should burn in hell. It is a figure of speech considering it is a made up place. The fact is that they are supporting someone who has taken active steps towards threatening someone's national identity. That seems like a pretty good reason to cut off contact with someone and in fact I would consider it to be very reasonable. It isn't just that they disagree with someone it is that they are supporting their potential subjugation under a foreign power and at the same time has done some very awful things on a larger scale.
It is ironic that the people who always say things like how they should keep politics out of things are the same people who have voted to take away others rights. It is a position of privilage to be able to say to keep politics out of things, because it isn't that simple.
Be better. For you that shouldn't be difficult to accomplish.
There would likely be very little resistance in Alberta anyways -- any sort of military annexation would focus on Southern Ontario first, once that was under US control the rest of the country will just fall in line, particularly with our current leadership.

Seeing some comments in here, this is exactly what Trump wants. He wants to see Canadians angry, and fighting with each other. He's such a POS.
Our two countries are so inter connected I can't even think of war. I have some family in the US who didn't vote Trump. Do you know how crazy Trump has made this that we are talking about going to war with friends/families/allies.
That being said, those MAGA cross the border to invade and it's all out warfare. I'll take down at least a few with me, though I am hoping it will never come to this.
"They are vile, irredeemable and disgusting and deserve to burn in hell!"
Who am I?
A - MAGA voter talking about anybody who has different political views than them, doesn't support the orange rapist in office, or isn't onboard the MAGA train
B - CP poster talking about MAGA voters.

Who am I?
A - MAGA voter talking about trans people
B - CP poster talking about MAGA voters.

The trans people didn't do anything to deserve it, though?

Oh yeah I'm definitely not a fighter or a soldier, I'll be first to admit. I would either flee or capitulate. More noting that we'll have time to think about it out here.

No, no they are not.
They are saying:
1) You support a lying, racist, rapist, grifter
2) You support a party/president who's platform is based on grievance against some of the most vulnerable people in the country
3) You support a party/president who is actively working to hurt/cause damage to those vulnerable groups
4) You support a party/president who are implicitly (if not explicitly) supporting Putin in a genocidal war of aggression
5) You support a party that is actively trying to hurt the country I live in
6) None of this is a surprise, you were told by us, and in many cases by DONALD TRUMP himself that this is what he was going to do, and you voted for it
There is an important difference between that and what you said in bold.
If someone says some horrible racist crap I don't think they are wrong because they think differently than me, I think they are wrong because they've said some abhorrent, demonstrably incorrect stuff.
I don't think Trump supporters are wrong, and some degree of terrible because they think differently than me. I think they are wrong, and some degree of terrible because they KNOWINGLY support and are responsible for someone who is doing and saying abhorrent and demonstrably wrong things.

Dude, you need to go back and re-read Night by Elie Wiesel.
Many Jewish people in the 1940s just plain didn't believe Germany would do what they were being told Germany would do (and was actively doing). "not in the 20th century!"
They marched them to death camps and killed six million of them.
It's so incredibly naïve and ignorant of history to think there is some great moral force that can save you from authoritarian violence and invasion when it announces it's coming for you.
Prepare for the worst and hope for the best, but don't assume there is some magic soldier that will stand in front of the weight of the US government's will. That's ridiculous. He'd last about five seconds.
The Youtube Infographics had a segment with an example of what it was like for an average German in the 1930s. Some of the parallels with what is going on in the U.S. are unsettling.
In particular, the fear people had for losing their jobs if they didn't tow the party line, attacks on the press, what they would have considered "DEI" hires at the time, promoting alternative health ideas, and so on. Not everything draws parallels, but enough that it is concerning. The Nazis didn't go from zero to full on war and genocide. There was a build up that eased people into it.

Again, you are missing a very important difference.
A MAGA voter taking about a trans person is attacking them for what they ARE.
Something they have no control over.
A CP poster talking about a MAGA voter is attacking them for what they are DOING.
What you're arguing is that a black person who hates white supremacists, is the same as a white supremacist who hates black people.
What you're arguing is that Jews who hate Nazis, are the same as Nazis who hate Jews.
Calling someone disgusting because the hold disgusting beliefs, and perform disgusting acts is NOT the same as calling someone disgusting because on an inherent trait.

If Doug came to your house and set it on fire every night, and nothing you ever said or did would stop him, how'd you feel about him? Buy Doug a gift basket? Take Doug for a coffee and a chat? You can do that, but Doug will still set fire to your house every night. Doug is clearly to blame for it and will not stop. Occasionally he may even rape your spouse, since you don't seem to mind. Take your vehicle for a joy ride. Steal your bike. What would you do? Note the police, law, and government are on Doug's team, along with half the voting public.
