Leavitt is the perfect spokesperson for the Trump administration. Offensive, misinformed and dumb - who else would you want as Trump’s stand in? Might as well see it as it is, rather than some polished smooth talker who could actually convince people that what they are doing makes sense and is ok.

Someone just mentioned this scenario to me.

Not saying it’d happen but what has to occur should Trump want to declare war on Canada. Does Congress have to vote on it? Do we think congress would do it? Would the military follow an order to attack? I’m assuming our real allies would support Canada militarily?

Yes Congress has the sole power to declare war.

The president has the power to temporarily initiate hostilities and has to report to Congress within 48 hours of doing so, and has to terminate hostilities after 60 days unless Congress declares war or otherwise authorizes the continuation (i.e. an authorization of the use of military force or AUMF). The president can also extend the 60 days by 30 days if certifies to Congress in writing the reason.

^ well, that’s not a lot of solace. They could easily run ramshackle through and take Canada in under 60 days.

They couldn't even win a war against people living in caves with no backup and limited weaponry. If Comrade Trump came for Canada they would have to deal with NATO and a bunch of people that look and talk like them. Good luck!

You think if the US invaded Canada NATO would all declare war on the US and come to our aid?

100% guarantee they would Neville Chamberlain that.

His goal seems pretty obvious at this point. Try to pound our economy into submission first in the hopes that life will get so bad that we'll gladly say "ok, we'll join you now". And if that doesn't work within the next 2 to 3 years, he might actually be insane and delusional enough to pull the trigger on an actual military invasion. But that would depend on a lot of factors.

With everything Musk and this administration are currently doing and the speed at which they're doing it, it's likely that they may not even be a functioning country anymore within the next 2 years, let alone one that's ready to declare an illegal, unprovoked war against a NATO ally.

If that ends up being the case, which is certainly a possibility at the rate they're currently going, hopefully Trump and his assclown administration are so busy trying to put out domestic fires and stop an armed uprising, that maybe they'll just forget about us.

I think if the US marched over the boarder the prudent action would be to Arm amry to the hilt, then disband them, the burn all personnel records related to the army and surrender. Give them the opportunity to self organize and engage in guerrilla tactics. It would be too wasteful to engage in any head to head fight.

I still hold out hope that when he tells them to do it, someone will just ignore him or refuse.
