Agreed, they absolutely should deal Vladdy,

However, its far more likely he will leave as a free agent.

I also agree, Jays won't trade him,

Pretty big hit to the Yankees with Cole out potentially a year or two.

Wow, that's a huge lose for the Yankee's wonder if they will try to acquire another pitcher.

No doubt. But who would be available still? I don't think they'll overpay with prospects as they are a bit low on those. Probably a deadline deal or if they slip at some point and become desperate.

If I was the Yankees I definitely would have filed the papers on the opt out from him vs giving him another shot at keeping the last 4 years. I don't think any pitcher is worth a 4x$36 at 34 years old. Sucks for the Yankees. Between losing him and Soto they could be meaningfully worse this year. Would be nice if the AL East is a little less difficult.

Agreed, might be a tough injury to return from at his age.

Apparently the ask was 14 years for $500M PV. Doesn't seem awful.

That feels like a number that will be achievable for him assuming this season isn't a disaster. Maybe not any more than that, but I bet Cohen would write that cheque.

Jays know they could match... could be a strategy to let it linger based on early performancd

$500 present value is too much IMO. He's asking for more than Ohtani's deal. The tradeoff is he'll be in his prime years for more than Ohtani, but he's not as talented. I don't fully buy into the marketing piece to recoup money but to me to pay a guy who has a propensity to grow large at any time, a 14 year contract, is very selfish thing to do to the franchise long term.

I'm well aware someone will do it, but that mistake should not be us. We should totally be dealing the guy early on. I said it before and will say it again. Anyway, if he falters and does not live up to last years numbers, you can be sure he'll scorn the Jays in free agency anyway, out of bitterness. If he aces, the Jays probably won't match a crazy offer. Not sure what the upside is in waiting it out unless they want to see where they're at in the standings. To me the risk it too significant. Deal him now and tell him we'll negotiate in the off-season. Get the prospects and maybe have a chance at him anyway. Can't let an asset like that walk when we have a terrible prospect base.

The Jays aren’t spending 230 million (5th most) to trade their best player before the season for prospects

I am not sure Atkins and shapiro feel the way we do . Toronto is not a destination. They have money but they can't take risks with assets. Ppl don't want to be there. In contrast to Cleveland. Ppl maybe ok with being there but no money...

That's an argument to sign the players you already have even if it costs a bit more.

And this morning I'm reading the Jays topped out at 14 years $450M PV in their offer.

What does $3.57M a year get that you add to keeping Guerrero, instead of paying it all to Guerrero?

####ing clown shoes that they didn't make this deal

Yeah if they got to 50 million OVER 14 years apart , seems crazy silly to walk away when you go out and trade for Straw who costs 11 million over the next 2 years .

The present value of 50 mil over 14 years at 6% is 22 million . That’s two Straws

(Now maybe vlad wanted that 50 mil early in the contract which would change the total value of the contract more )

The best deals are sometimes the ones you don’t make. I don’t like Atkins but I’m happy they didn’t go there. Now don’t lose him for zilch.

They won’t get zilch . They will get a compensation pick unless they are way out at the trade deadline

There’s zero chance he’s getting traded 2 weeks before opening day

Compensation pick for the Jays will be after the 4th round. While that's not technically nothing, it's pretty close.

Agreed, only way I can see a trade is if the Jays are out of it near the deadline,
