Not "other countries", just China, at least in Singapore's case.
This isn't necessarily contrary to plan. There seems to be a desire from the Trump WH and his advisors that there be something of a return to spheres of influence - Europe and Russia can fight it out over who controls what in the middle, the USA basically takes over North America, and China gets massively increased control over Asia. The Trump folks seem pretty much okay with that endgame.

Gotta at least wait for the bottom, and I haven't seen the Handmaid uniforms out in full force yet, so they still have a ways to go.

While mentioning the value of vaccination for community immunity, Kennedy said "the decision to vaccinate is a personal one." He emphasized treatment for measles, saying that vitamin A can "dramatically" reduce deaths from the disease. In an interview with Fox News on Tuesday, he said Texas doctors are giving steroids and cod liver oil to their measles patients and "getting very, very, good results."

RFK is on the case, lightly recommending maybe vaccinating but that cod liver oil, great ####.

There is 100 years of evidence to prove that time in the market beats timing the market. It is so hard to predict things. Trump might get bought out tomorrow and then mellow for the next four years.

Oh, ya, I get it, and I'm not trying to time anything. I was mostly disgusted enough last week to sell of American stocks that were low quantity. Not changing anything with my more major holdings which are all managed anyway. Still, I think we are far more likely teetering on a cliff than about to make a run.

I don't spend much time looking at Project 2025, but I guess one outcome they are trying for is to destroy everything and try to build it back up the way they want it.
The only plausible explanations for what he's doing is to purposely destroy everything, or just gross incompetence.

I think markets are waking up to the fact Trump is trying to run the most important economy as a fifedom. The gong show of Lutnik going on news shows to guess what his boss is doing would freak out any finance person.
Its sunk in that Trump basically sees the US state has a personal extension of himself. He's the head of "the family" now. Time to carve things up, and create truces with the other "bosses".
If the market has truly taken hold of this reality it is falling through the floor. The problem with the burn down and build again, is you can't control how that plays out. The most heavily armed population in the world isn't a great place for a government that imposes its will. Messy.

Ministry of Truth now in effect at the National Cancer Institute.
"Employees at the National Cancer Institute, which is part of the National Institutes of Health, received internal guidance last week to flag manuscripts, presentations or other communications for scrutiny if they addressed “controversial, high profile, or sensitive” topics. Among the 23 hot-button issues, according to internal records reviewed by ProPublica: vaccines, fluoride, peanut allergies, autism."

I mean this is it, isn't it?
When they officially are policing thoughts and ideas that's when it's cemented that, at best it is a flawed system, and at worst, it's full-blown authoritarianism.
Scary times indeed. I wonder how long until saying #### Trump gets you a month in jail.

Mahmoud Khalil, a graduate student at Columbia until this past December, was inside his university-owned apartment Saturday night when several Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents entered and took him into custody, his attorney, Amy Greer, told The Associated Press.
Greer said she spoke by phone with one of the ICE agents during the arrest, who said they were acting on State Department orders to revoke Khalil's student visa. Informed by the attorney that Khalil was in the United States as a permanent resident with a green card, the agent said they were revoking that instead, according to the lawyer.
|
This is a HUGE deal. They have arrested and detained a legal permanent resident (Mahmoud Khalil has a green card), without a warrant, without due process, and intend to revoke his green card and deport him, and ICE won't say where he is.
So many constitutional rights violated, the exact kind of thing that Putin has done (go read Bill Browder's book Red Notice about what Putin did to Sergei Magnitsky), and he's bragged about it saying that it's the first of many to come.
If he gets away with this, he will illegally detain and disappear natural born citizens too.

Project 2025 in full effect. Anybody who believed Trump when he said he had no idea what that was is a ####ing idiot.
Oh yeah, he also told anyone complaining about the price of eggs - something he said would drop in price then minute he's in office - to 'shut up'.
This is such a strange, strange time right now.

It's insane how much the electorate is willing to have the government waste time and dollars on swathes of things that have absolutely zero effect on improving their lives.
