Yojimbo directed by Akira Kurosawa - 9/10 - I really loved everything about this movie. There really is something refreshing about being dropped into a story with no background and no future. Just a character, a circumstance and an outcome. A really fun short watch.
Belle de Jour by Luis Buñuel - 8/10 - I enjoy a good surrealist movie, and this one definitely delivers. It had very clear motif and a fun little story that was totally absurd. I enjoyed the visual argumentation and sound design especially. I watched without subtitles and my Parisian French is 60% at best, no less I always knew what was going on. A lot of fun. Watch with you wife and you might get lucky after.
Her - 8/10. Amazon Prime had this listed under 'action' which I thought was funny for a movie that's 90% just a guy talking to his phone. I loved the movie, I thought it gave a really clear perspective on relationships and the human condition and is even more relevant 10+ years after its release.
Also one of the most sci-fi feeling films I've seen, very few movies I've seen have recreated the kind of feeling I can get from a good novel.

Still, Amazon had ideas. Sources close to the franchise say the streamer approached the Broccolis with pitches for a TV series based on Moneypenny, the MI6 secretary who’s been batting eyes at Bond since Sean Connery’s days, as well as a show about Bond CIA buddy Felix Leiter, and maybe even something involving a female 007. Predictably, Broccoli and Wilson weren’t interested.
Yeah, this is gonna be a trainwreck.

Watched Casino by Scorsese, it might be an unpopular opinion but it's my favorite movie by him. It's crazy this only got 1 Oscar nomination, it's perfect.

Casino is a weird movie in that the performances are so good by much of the cast, who are all playing deeply unlikable people, that it becomes legitimately hard to watch.

Watched the 70s sci Fi dystopian movie Soylent Green, thought it was really good. The twist ending is so well known I knew what it was going in but I still thought it was great. The basic story is that in the future (2022 in this case) the world is over populated and everything is broken, people are starving and due to global warming almost nothing grows. A policeman (played excellently by Charlton Heston) investigates a murder of a very wealthy man, who was part of the Soylent corporation. As he digs further he uncovers a conspiracy. The acting was terrific and the scene where Edward G. Robinson's character goes into a suicide pod might be the most heart breaking ever seen in screen. Robinson was diagnosed with terminal cancer before shooting the movie and he died shortly after shooting that scene, I can't imagine what it would have been like to act in that scene. There is a major difference between sci Fi films before and after Star Wars.

Invasion is amazing (I actually like all 4 versions of the story but the 70s one is my favorite). I also think movies like Logan's Run and Rollerball pair well with Soylent Green.

Yeah Casino is an amazing movie and intense. I haven't watched in quite some time. Should watch it again.
One of my favorites. Sharon Stone character got a bit annoying but that was probably the point. Tried to get my older kid to watch it a few years ago and that's when I learned he is one of those people who really hates violence (even fictional) during the Pesci pen stabbing scene. I'm laughing at it and he looked like he saw a ghost and didn't want to watch any more. Oops.

Yeah...I run into the same problem with my daughter and wife.
I'll be laughing my head off and they're like slack-jawed...at both the film and me.
I usually just retort with..."Its not real. Its just a movie."
If nothing else I appreciate the cinematic art of violence.

Not sure if we need spoiler tags for a movie over 30 years old....but
Spoiler!
I remember laughing the first time I saw that final desert scene, but only at the very beginning of the scene. The goons who beat up Nicky and Dominic are so old. They are clearly out of shape with grey hair. You can hear them panting.
Then the beatings continue and, even after seeing that scene dozens of times, my stomach starts to turn. The part where Dominic's body slides into the bit, because his bones are so broken up. The noise from the bats was so realistic. The way Nicky breathes out a bit of dust.
Definitely slightly traumatized by that scene.
That ending really hit the mark, with each character getting exactly what they deserve. Sam gets off light, and just ends back to being a small time bookie. He was the least evil of the bunch, and his big fault was that he was just too neurotic, stubborn, and unwilling to compromise on some things.
