Can we tariff AI art? Is that possible, I don't know what tariffs are, but I want AI Art to stop and I want those that use it to be bludgeoned to death with a rusty spoon

Strange thing to complain about in a thread as serious as this.

The Tariff Thread

Same with the Ukraine minerals thing. If he came out and explained that having American companies on the ground with vested interests would deter Russian aggression it would at least be a plausible explanation. Maybe not a good one but better than just an apparent shakedown.
Edit: then again that’s just us trying to find a rationale explanation for irrational behaviour. More likely he really is just a duck.

I actually clicked it a couple times and almost 700 AI birthday shout outs songs in a month is impressive.

Had an idea!

On the export tax that Ontario has on power going south, who is actually paying the government of Ontario?

Good to see Eby upping his game in B.C.
Quote:
He says Trump's threats of additional tariffs on the dairy industry, an investigation into Canada's lumber, and disturbing reports that the president wants to redraw the border and pursue Canada water set off the newest ban.
Eby says all American liquor products will be removed from the shelves of B.C. liquor stores both in response to the escalating threats and because residents don't want to see U.S. products on retail displays.
The premier says they didn't act immediately on all American products because he says leaders from Democratic states have been "on side" and advocating for Canada in the United States.
He says legislation will also be coming within days to allow the province to levy fees against U.S. commercial trucks travelling from Washington state to Alaska, as promised last week.

Personally I don’t think you strategically pick / choose which states to punish based on who they vote for.
Need to convince them to get vocal / protest.

I agree which is why I'm glad he's pulling all alcohol. I especially liked this quote.

Nice to see two completely different Priemiers politically(Ford an Eby) united on this. Come on Smith...up your ####ing game!

What does being vocal and protesting accomplish? Short of literally shooting them in the head or otherwise credibly threatening violence upon them and their families, there seems to be very little that will actually influence GOP congresspeople to do anything but worship whatever DJT does, because anything else gets them primaried.

To be fair Alberta has also stopped ordering liquor from the US. I assume stores can sell what they still have in stock however.

in 2018 they taxed the metals, but they did not tax manufactured products that were made out of those metals. This time around they have stated that they will. So it should be less likely to cost the US jobs in the short term, but it should also be twice as inflationary. I think it will still have a down stream effect of quelling spending and costing people jobs, but it is not a direct analog.
I think the types of actions he has been playing footsy with for 2 months are a lot more comparable to 1928 than 2018. And I suppose we all know what happened in 1929.

I saw an interview with that jackass Lutnick over the weekend where he said the April 2nd tariffs on Mexico and Canada are going ahead and will stay on until Trump is satisfied that the fentanyl issue has been dealt with, which of course he’ll never be since that reasoning is completely fabricated horses***, at least in regards to Canada’s border.
I really hope that we’re seriously exploring other markets right the f*** now and are starting the diversification process immediately. This on again/off again tariff crap will likely continue for the at least the next several months if not longer unless the U.S. economy completely tanks, which is certainly possible with how dumb this administration is.
Get ready for another threat of tariffs, followed by another 30 day reprieve until May. And round and round we go. This whole thing is just so stupid and pointless.

Tariffs to eliminate fentanyl makes as much sense as my kids can’t play with yours unless you get rid of the weeds and junk in your yard. One has nothing to do with the other. That’s a bully tactic.

If we go a full 30 days without a single ounce of fentanyl being seized at the border, Trump will just state tariffs were about some other outlandish reason and continue threatening tariffs.
Canada doesn't contribute to NATO - tariffs.
Canada restricts free speech - tariffs.
Canada is a dictatorship - tariffs.
Melania wants to bang Justin - tariffs.

Yep. He won't even state a new reason, he'll just keep talking about fentanyl. It was never about fentanyl.

They need to keep banging the fentanyl drum, because the “border emergency” declaration is the only reason they’ve been able to bypass Congress in regards to applying tariffs. They’ll try and milk that bulls*** for as long as they can, or at least until a few Republicans grow a spine, which will be never.

If they don't seize any fentanyl, he'll say the security efforts didn't work because they didn't stop any from getting across the border.
If they seize a lot of fentanyl, he'll say they're not doing enough because so much is crossing the border... even though a big seizure means it didn't get across.

Exactly. He'll keep talking about it but there's nothing we can do to solve it because it's not a real problem or the reason he applied tarrifs.
