To correct something: Wolf did not make his professional debut more than 5 years ago.

He played 3 games at the end of February 2021 (just over 4 years ago) because the AHL season started a little before the WHL season, but went back to Junior once their season began (as required by the NHL-CHL agreement).

His first full pro season was 2021-22, which started 3.5 years ago.

Celebrini wins, Hutson 2nd. Wolf and Michkov will both receive 3rd place votes, each may receive some 2nd place, and Michkov probably edges out Wolf for 3rd. Wolf 4th then a massive drop-off in votes to whoever gets 5th.

Pretty normal for goalies to break into the league a little later as well. Many elite goalies start by tipping their toes in early with occasional cups of coffee before making it full time.

If that factors into how people vote, you almost need a separate award for the position.

Panarin won the Calder when he was 24. Age won't be a factor.

If the season ended today, my order would be Celbrini - Hutson - Wolf - Michkov. However, since Calgary is riding Wolf down the stretch drive - and if the Flames get in - then I imagine Wolf's case becomes much stronger. I don't think anyone has won the trophy yet, and all three have a shot. 4 if you think Michkov can suddenly increase his scoring. I think he is behind everyone simply because he is not standing out, and is playing the easiest position. All three of Celebrini, Hutson and Wolf all look like vets out there pushing their teams, and I don't see the same from Michkov (though I do like him).

Interesting that betting websites have him anywhere from 9-1 and 18-1 to win.

That 18-1 is a pretty solid bet to take.

We should not accept the results and storm NHL headquarters if Wolf is not named the winner.

It's between Wolf and Hutson.

Whichever leads their team to the playoffs wins.

How do some people have Wolf as a 3rd place vote?

How are Celebrini and Hutson remotely having the same impact as one of the all-time great rookie goaltending seasons?

We are witnessing ALL-TIME greatness.

I doubt Wolf ends up even being a nominee (Top 3). I think he deserves some recognition though.

The boys and I got 41:1 on Jan 20th. Came into 10:1 Jan 25th here in Aus with the local bookies. Might cash out if he comes in again(currently 17:1).

Wolf has made it clear a number of times how he relishes the opportunity to prove his doubters wrong, so I think him not winning or not finishing top 3 in voting will really only just dial him in even more. Fine by me!

Fourth in the NHL in SV% (minimum 25 games played). Directly responsible for 69% of the points garnered by the lowest scoring team in the league. That would be like a rookie forward being in the top 20 in league scoring (Celebrini is 75th).

Wolf should be the clear runaway favorite, a clear already top 5 player at his position (very arguably the best 5v5 goalie in the NHL).

Celebrini:
- 25 5v5 points (tied 53rd among listed Cs on Natural Stat Trick, tied 107th overall)
- 1.88 p/60 5v5 (53rd among Cs, 112th overall)

San Jose without Celebrini = garbage
San Jose with Celebrini - worst team in the NHL

Franchise player. But not close to being among the best centers in the game just yet, let alone players overall.

Michkov:
- 27 5v5 points (tied 16th among listed RWs, tied 73rd overall)
- 2.1 p/60 5v5 (13th among RWs, 67th overall)

Philadelphia without Michkov = bad
Philadelphia with Michkov = 6th worst Points %

Franchise player. Incredible 5v5 stats. Still not close to among the best players RWs in the game, let alone players. Still not fully counted on his team.

Hutson:
- 23 5v5 points (tied 12th among D)
- 1.21 p/60 5v5 (30th among D)

Montreal without Hutson = hopefully fighting for the playoffs
Montreal with Hutson = in the Playoff hunt

Excellent defenseman, but not close to being among the best D-men)

Now Dustin Wolf:
- .935 SV% 5v5 (2nd in NHL among goalies with 30+ GP)
- 1.87 GAA 5v5 (2nd in NHL)
- 19.80 GSAA 5v5 (3rd in NHL)
- 0.65 GSAA/60 (2nd in NHL)
- .873 HDSV% 5v5 (1st in NHL)
- 10.78 HDGSAA 5v5 (3rd in NHL)
- 0.35 HDGSAA/60 (1st in NHL)

Flames without Dustin Wolf =. worst offensive NHL team team fighting for 32nd
Flames with Dustin Wolf = fighting for a Wild Card spot, comfortably 10-15 spots ahead in the standings then they'd be without him.

These Darren Haynes tweets say all that needs to be said.

https://x.com/DarrenWHaynes/status/1880859621361160635

This team is an absolute unwatchable cellar dweller without Dustin Wolf.

He'll legitimately deserve to get some Hart recognition if the Flames somehow squeak into the Playoffs.

Dustin Wolf might already legitimately be the best 5v5 goalie in the NHL, as a rookie. His overall numbers still have him comfortably top 3-5.

You can't get much better/more dominant at his position than Dustin Wolf already has, whereas the rest of the rookies in the conversation still have a decent ways to go.

If he doesn't win the Calder (and he likely won't because garbage voters), it'll be a farce.

This fanbase needs to give him more love and recognize just how far he's carried this offensively talentless team.

It would be nice for a team to win the cup exclusively on the back of the best player on the team being a goalie. Put to rest the mentality that it's the most important position on the team except when it isn't.

Nice for us, anyway.

That's a huge factor for voters, just look at past winners.

And I don't hate everything Canadian. Dustin Wolf is a proud American, and I, like most of us on this forum, hope that he continues to be the second coming of Mikka Kiprusoff for many years ahead.
I don't think it's the facts or message.

It's the presentation.

Most fans of a team would post something like "my fear is he may be considered older and overlooked by some teams. Honesty if I had a vote that would be a consideration for me".

Instead you do a drive-by stating he's not even a rookie and tick people off.

Default Is Dustin Wolf Rookie of the Year?

https://twitter.com/user/status/1899114504085983275

Quote:
calgary flames goalie dustin wolf was third with 46 points (three first-place votes), followed by michkov (41 points) and forward logan stankovan (nine points), who was traded to the carolina hurricanes from the dallas stars on friday.

Wolf, the nhl's rookie of the month for january, has been a big reason the flames (30-23-10) remain in the running for a stanley cup playoff berth.

The 23-year-old is 22-12-4 with a 2.52 goals-against average and .915 save percentage in 38 games. His .844 high danger save percentage ranks in the 91st percentile, according to nhl edge, well above the league average of .806. He set a franchise record for shutouts in a season by a rookie goalie (three), making 26 saves in a 1-0 win against the canadiens on saturday.

"when he's on, he beats the play a lot so he's in position and he makes hard saves look relatively easy," calgary coach ryan huska said. "but i think his biggest strength is how he reads the play. He arrives, a lot of times, on his feet, when most goaltenders would be sliding over to make a save."
