The Flames trading down from 14 with who was available? That was awful.

Yea, very weird draft. 2012 is definitely a good draft to look at when people get a bit too high/low about their teams picks right after a draft.
-None of the top 4 picks has been in the NHL for the last 2 years
-Have some very good defenseman, a couple high end forwards, but is a somewhat weak draft overall
-Produced two of the best goalies of this era in the NHL in Hellebuyck and Vasilevskiy
-A hilariously poor draft for the Oilers with Yakupov, Moroz, Gustaffson (didn't sign), Reinhart (traded a 1st and 2nd for)
All things considered, Jankowski ended up being ok value for the Flames at 21 overall. I'm happy to see him keep a job down elsewhere in the NHL.
That said, I'm very curious who the Flames would've picked at 14. Every player picked from 14 to 21st has had a better NHL career than Jankowski.
I'm also really curious if the Flames truly had Jankowski in mind when they traded down. Was their one of those other picks they thought they could sneak through to 21?
The pointless what-if to me is "what if the Flames drafted Vasilevskiy"? The Giordano as captain era, 80 percent of the Gaudreau era, the Flames didn't have a solid netminder.
Rebuild timing wise, that would've been a perfect pick.
