After this week, Penn State is 14th in the Pairwise, which will not be good enough to get an invite to the tournament.
Next week, they travel to Michigan for a best-of-3 series in the Big 10 Quarterfinal. If they can go on a run in the Big 10, they might move up enough in the Pairwise to get an invite, so they probably don't need to win it all, but I think it's safe to say they do need to win next week.

Hoskin, who proudly reported that he has been able to add eight or nine pounds of muscle to his 6-foot-1 frame, won’t be one of those one-and-done guys in the NCAA. He’ll undoubtedly benefit from further college seasoning, although it has become fairly common for Atlantic Hockey to lose some of its top talents via the transfer portal, so he could potentially consider a move to a powerhouse conference. And to be honest, he’s ahead of where those guys were when I was playing them, and other Junior A guys that went on to make the NHL.

Hoskins with 1A as Niagara even's their series vs Army. They play again tomorrow to see who moves on in the Atlantic Hockey Conference
Suniev with 1A as UMass and Maine tie 2-2; Maine gets the extra point in the SO. Hockey East conference playoffs start next week. Opponent TBD
Littler didn't play so who gives a crap about the UND score . NCHC conference playoffs also start next week for UND

Penn St. is the best team in College hockey since the calendar turned over, which coincided with Sergeev return on Jan 3rd.
Sergeev is 13-3-4 since returning from injury. In those 4 ties, he actually won 3 of 4 in the SO.

Don’t really know what was going on with Sergeev at UConn, but he’s back to the form he showed in the USHL where he was a wrecking ball.

I think the coach at UConn just liked to rotate his goalies, so Sergeev never really had a chance to get in a groove because he was only playing one game per week.

Big upset in the Big 10 playoffs as unranked and bottom seed Notre Dame defeats #3 Minnesota. This is good news for Sergeev and Penn State. Instead of playing #1 Michigan State, they will play Ohio State whom they are tied with in the Pairwise rankings at #11

Notre Dame pulls off a huge upset, defeating the 3rd-ranked team in the country, Minnesota. This is good for Penn State, who will play the 9th-ranked Ohio State next week rather than the 2nd-ranked Michigan State.
It's still a tough road, but a little less tough.

I think there was lots to be happy about. Certainly for a 4th round pick.
Lots left to prove, but a decent D 1+

I'd have to think the next move for Hoskins is to level up to better competition, whether that means the NCAA transfer portal to a top conference, or turning pro. Although he's 20 and able to go the AHL, there's no hurry on the Flames' part.

I'd like to see Hoskins at center next year as well. If he can't and is just a RW, I think that changes his value a fair bit.
