If you take melatonin too late, the best way to combat it for me was to sleep with the lights on. You'll feel less crappy that way. That way your body isn't also releasing a lot of natural melatonin to the stuff you took. Your body does that in darkness. TBH, I used to do this when I realized I'd be sleeping less than 5 hours. Less groggy that way.

That's not the melatonin.

It's been a long time since I slept through the night.

I don’t mind the product pitches the Youtubers add in, but if there is a 45 sec ad in a video that I am not quite invested in, I just say screw it. The worst are long ads before you even start the video so you don’t even know if the content is worth waiting for the ad to finish.

You can have the extension on, but not skip the pitches. It will show you on the timeline where they are, if you decide to scroll ahead. The ones that get me are at the end of the video, and then you realize the next 2 minutes is a pitch. Those are nice to know.

I've got some old 'Hounders coming in next week and they're scrounging for some of their old stuff that they were just going to throw out, but they've seen that I've been collecting it so if I get new stuff I'll post it in that thread later.
I should do something similar for CP Rail considering where my office is located, but I dont have a personal connection to the Railway.
Also, a grateful shoutout to posters helping me find old Greyhound stuff!
I've got some stuff up in my office...my favourite one is one of my Dad's Safe Driving Awards.
Seriously...old companies were weird. One of his Safe Driving Awards was a whiskey decanter and shot glasses. For a Driver.

Ya, that's more complicated then. I have my projector plugged into my computer, so if I watch Youtube, I just drag it over that way vs Google TV.

Yeah, similar to BigThief I watch YT on AppleTV. It would be almost bearable if you could at least look at the video description or comments while the ad is running so you can decide if the video is pertinent. I was trying to troubleshoot a problem with stand mixer and it’s impossible because truing to go off a video title and thumbnail is useless.

Yeah, I've been having so many weird occasional issues with Roku and FireTV and stuff with things like casting, detecting other things on network, display bugs in Netflix etc.
In frustration I've occasionally considered getting a mini PC/Apple Mini to mount on the ceiling to connect to the projector and just ditching the little devices.
A mini PC could let me do more than just streaming and also do things like install more powerful script blockers/ad blockers. But that's overkill.

To be fair, it's not the CRA that's caused this fiasco. The government is starting to just announce things to sound good to voters and then can't actually get this stuff into law. And if they actually get it through parliament it seems to be written quite poorly lately.
CRA just administers the tax code - most of the recent problems are due to the Department of Finance drafting or lack of action by parliment.

I bought a beelink mini PC last year and it has been fantastic for streaming sports, movies / TV and I also have it set up for emulating old console games (think GameCube era and earlier). I had issues with a cheaper non bee link brand where the mini PC bricked itself immediately after updating drivers for the first time. Got a full refund (Amazon) and it’s been smooth sailing on the 7 seas since.
The only downside is it’s a PC and not a smooth UI built around streaming like Apple TV or chromecast.
If you have questions on my set up I’d be happy to answer them.

Incorrect. There's certain things the government is doing that puts CRA in a tough spot. I don't blame CRA for that.
CPA Canada and the Canadian law Institute asked CRA for an extension on the deadline for Bare trusts. CRA said no. Then they canceled bare trust filing requirements a few days before the deadline they had insisted upon. Again, not government or department of finance. That's purely CRA's fault.
But in the last few years, CRA has started behaving significantly more "You're all guilty until proven innocent!". Then they'll rudely act like you're the dumb one when their instructions make no sense. That's purely on the CRA, not government or department of finance.
"Hi, I was hoping to follow up on the status of a notice of objection. It's been a few months and we haven't heard anything."
"Why didn't you re-file instead of file an objection if you wanted a faster answer?"
"Because the reasoning on the reassessment letter is incorrect so we submitted supporting documentation as per the instructions on the notice of reassessment."
"How was I supposed to know that? You should have re-file instead of objected if you wanted a fast response"
"I don't need a fast response I need an appropriate response. I'm calling to ask the status and confirm we don't have to resubmit because it's well past the CRA processing time posted online."
"It looks like the notes on the file is that we're still working on it."
"OK thank you. Thanks what I was trying to confirm."
"The client's FHSA deduction was rejected because schedule 15 wasn't filed."
"I prepared the return. S15 was filed."
"No. I don't think so. That's why there's no FHSA information on the notice of assessment."
"There's FHSA information on the notice of assessment. I can read it out to you. Doesn't that mean S15 was filed?"
"No there shouldn't be FHSA information on the notice of assessment because S15 wasn't filed."
"... I'm going to follow the instructions on the letter and file an objection."
Again, this bat ####tery isn't the government nor department of finance nor external party making it hard on the CRA. I actually wonder if it's a brain dead AI prompt on the other side, giving the agents bad response prompts. It's so ####ing bad at times.
I even had an agent ask whether the client had properly filed FHSA on their 2022 tax return to ensure appropriate opening numbers on the 2023 return. I ####ing kid you not.

The rumour is that the Finance Minister told the CRA to be more aggressive on making sure funds are being paid promptly, which I think has changed their behaviour somewhat. Doesn't help that they've hiring like mad.

I just had a client who had a Capital Gain of $0.20 and his return was kicked back to me because of it.
20 cents.
Figure it out guys.

Locke my tax dollars are paying for the CRA so I’d appreciate it if you could just file your clients returns properly the first time to avoid creating unnecessary overtime on their end. TIA!

I knew that it was only a matter of time until your self destructive nature caught up with you. I think some yoga might help you with that, plus if you start a YouTube channel of you doing yoga and share the link here that will probably help all of us.

Thats not very nice. You just want to watch me fall over.
This is the kind of attitude that killed Chris Farley.
