They barely have enough cap space to fill the 6 open holes on their roster for next season and that’s IF they bridge Bouchard rather than pay him the probable 9 or 10 million per he’ll be looking for.

How in the blue hell did they think they could fit $12+ million of Rantanen’s salary under the cap without completely gutting their roster? They’d have to pay someone to take Nurse and probably would have to offload another at least $5 million on top of that from somewhere else. Just non-sensical.

This tells you why the story is fake. He’s a plant for the Lowe/Katz regime.

They agreed to an extension that they couldn’t fit in the cap. They would also have to dump 12M in salary in minutes and they also didn’t have a trade worked out for the player.

Carolina didn’t allow Dallas to talk to him until a trade was agreed on. Why would they allow the oilers to negotiate an extension and not have a trade agreed on.

The Oilers have no prospects.

I don't think I'm wrong in saying that Stankoven (even if he's undersized) is a more valuable piece than Savoie or O'Reilly. Oilers don't have their next 2 firsts , or a 2nd this year


I'm not sure that Savoie, O'Reilly, the 2027 first, the 2026 2nd and a 2025 3rd even is even equal value? and if it was would leave them with one 2nd round pick and 2 3rd rounders in the next 3 years

Funny to hear Edmonton didn't have the trade assets required to land Rantanen.

No ####, I can't think of a single piece I'd realistically ask for. No roster players, prospects, or remaining picks would be enough.

Rishaug has sort of been blacklisted in the Edmonton media after TSN 1260 shuttered. He's never invited on the new station, and CHUD doesn't have him on. So I guess he needs to do something to get attention.

Still can't believe that Carolina got: Stankhoven, 2x1sts and Taylor Hall for 1.3 years of Martin Necas (and that is considering how well Necas has done this year for my hockey pool).

That is how you take our "right while competitive" strategy to the extreme. They do things differently in Carolina and it's unclear if it will ever lead to a cup...but it's impressive/fun to watch. If they hit on the equivalent of Wolf...look out.

Rantanen got traded...and Carolina is a team that doesnt f* around. You dont think they called a bunch of teams and said ..give me Draisaitl, give me Marner, give me Petterson, give me a tkachuck...to see who else would bite.

To your point, they probably only got a couple of bites, but I can believe there is truth to the story that there were lots of "discussions".
