In the short term? Dallas. Got the biggest piece and didn’t really give up much from their roster to do it. Just big futures.
Overall though I like Floridas moves. Marchand was cheap, jones could have a big bounce back and sturm is solid depth

Dallas added the biggest name but also paid the biggest price and IMO didn't fill their biggest need which was top 4 RD
Harley - Lybushkin
Lindell - Ceci
Bischel - Dumba
They will get Heiskanen and Lundkvist back for the playoffs I think but if you're going to go all in then I think they should have tried to add a dman too.
IMO Boston had the best day.
Turned Carlo, Coyle, and Marchand, 5th into Mittelstadt, Minten, 1st, conditional 1st (could be 2nd), 2nd (Col), Zellers, Jokiharju
Got younger and added a lot of draft capital and did the honest thing instead of trying to push for the playoffs.
Islanders also were a winner IMO. A 1st, 3rd, and Ritchie is an absolute steal for 33 year old Brock Nelson.

Dallas because they got a stud and immediately locked him up long term. Looks good on paper, but the games aren't played on paper, so I guess we'll see.

I'd say Boston, and it'll be interesting to see how their rebuild/retool goes compared to ours. They obviously looked at their position and chose to sell and got great assets back without losing any young pieces.
Now, they're obviously further out and have played more games, but if we think the Ducks are still potentially in the hunt here in the West, no reason to think that there's zero chance Boston could get in. But they took a stance and moved guys out and did well with it I think.
I just hope the arms race cements a central division finalist this year (excluding the Jets). No more shenanigans like last year eh. Jets, Oilers, Leafs out first round, Nucks, Habs don't make it. Ottawa makes a run, has a good 1st round but bows out too.
As for us, playoffs or drop into top 10, that's all I ask.

I like what Carolina did. They didn't just succumb to the classic, "we're contenders so we're just going to add". Instead they looked realistically at their chances of signing Rantanen and they got a solid package back involving futures. Dallas is also aging, and those futures may be worth some high picks. So they do alright now but also set themselves up for the future. I like that thought process.
Boston and Philly also did well in their trades with the Leafs. Laughton isn't worth a 1st round pick, but Philly managed that. Leafs needed a D, and Carlo fills that void, but they gave up a lot with Minten and a 1st.
All in all, very odd that last year was considered a mediocre draft but teams didn't deal their 1sts. This year 1sts were dealt all over the place for less talent.

Winnipeg. Added some key depth in Tanev and Schenn without paying a ton, and for a team already playing quiet well, didn't disrupt chemistry.

My problem with Winnipeg is speed. Last year they looked amazing too. I personally thought they'd win it all. Then against Colorado they were skated around badly. They're a very average skating team and if they face a team like Colorado it's a bad matchup.

FLA - Marchand, Jones, Sturm
OTT - Zetterlund and Cozens in, Norris out
SJS - Half the team out (again), Push for 1st overall in (again)
Did I miss anything? Assuming we won't really know who won until the playoffs are over. Maybe even after the draft.

On Carolina… Stankoven and 2 x 1sts is bananas…. I’d be happiest to be a fan of that team right now.

Last years draft wasn’t mediocre. That was a narrative that got out there largely because the year before was the Bedard draft
Last years draft I think was above average because of Celebrini but a really good top 10ish
This years draft isn’t below average in my view

I don't know if I agree with that - the first round picks are okay but still one of them is in 2028 so while anything is possible that is a long way away and late first round draft picks don't have a huge amount of value on trade deadline it seems looking at the other trades that were made.
Stankoven could be good but he is an undersized offensive player who has put up 29 points in 59 games this year. He has potential to be a very good player but sort of reminds me a little bit of Matthew Lombardi, a good player but not an elite level of player.
They turned Necas and Drury into Stankoven, 2 firsts, 2 thirds and the ghost of Taylor Hall. It is good but a futures deal for a team that a month ago was in win now mode getting the biggest name available.

I have Colorado making the biggest improvements in this deadline. I know Dallas for Rantanen but stacking up center like the Avs did was a pretty significant step.
Nelson and Coyle are the perfect #2/#3 centers for them.

That wasn’t the intention of the trade. They tried to sign the biggest name and he said no so they salvaged what they could of a bad situation and got a decent haul back.
Another way to look at it is Necas was on a 2 year deal and likely gets dealt next season. Would he get the same return? Probably not.
While they screwed thrmsleved this year they have assets now and cap space to stretch things out.

Colorado has also been caved in on faceoffs. With the trade for Nelson 53% Coyle 49% and Drury 51% they have gotten significantly better.
Colorado knows center ice is how you win.
