Getting stomped or not, gives the players a sense of what to expect in the postseason in future seasons.

Rantanen was moved because he was a UFA the CANES couldnt extend and keep. Obviously

he's also an elite level talent - hence the haul.

Mild disappointment maybe. But most of us know how overhyped the TDL is these days.

It was a tough day for those fans who want the Flames to fire sale every asset and commit to being very bad for the next 5 years to try to be potentially good and a playoff team after that.

Pretty much any RHS center of interest has been dealt. Doubt anything gets done on the front.

Only ones left really are Mercer and Wright. Doubt we get either of them.

I don't think management necessarily planned on this team being in the playoff spot at the deadline, but here we are.

Sure they could sell, but what should they be selling? They don't have any pending UFA's that would return anything significant. Kadri has a NMC and most likely isn't waiving to go anywhere. Maybe Andersson, but why move him just to move him? If they feel like they can get similar offers at the draft to what they are getting now, why move him now?

I get that people want to tank, but that's not where this team is at today, and they don't really have any assets that they absolutely need to sell right now.

I don't really understand how their situation right now is being viewed as sacraficing the future to make the playoffs today.

I think it comes down to 2 things so far.

1 - Craig isn't/wasn't/wont pay a hefty price for assets just to squeak in.
2 - Craig isn't/wasn't/wont sell off UFA's for lackluster returns

If Kadri wanted to move, and Craig wanted to move him he could have been an Av.
Didn't happen.

No big offers for Rasmus, at least nothing to change Craig's mind on if he's available or not but teams have been calling.

It wasnt a personal insult...you accused me of trolling but your logic was ridiculous.

Players like Hanifin and Stone were traded as UFAs and extended. They were still traded because they were UFAs. Flames have nothing comparable this go round obbiously. Take the L
