Don't forget that all 3 are drafting very high this year and really only SJ has a very poor record. Seattle and Anaheim aren't that far behind us.

This arms race in the west just further emphasizes how squeaking in wont do much good for Calgary honestly.

Careful, you might upset some Dinos on here.

He was traded because he was a UFA come on now...the other two dont really compare with anyone the Flames have. Also SJ being 32nd is a tad different lol

Man, if I wasn't born and raised in Calgary, and followed the team all my life... I'd so hate this team for being so boring.

And when the Flames do decide to sell next year it will be a buyers market because all the teams that went crazy this year will be reluctant to make moves after it burned them this year.

Similar to how buyers went crazy in 22-23 and then all didn't want to make moves in 23-24

Yeah, if you look at what the top west teams have done, it's hard to see how the Nucks or Flames or anybody else really make any sort of impact by adding.

Still, I'm sure the Flames are pounding the pavement for long term options.

Or everyone else beats each other up and whoever ends up playing them in the semis has a much-weakened opponent.

It's all about the experience for the young guys though. Would a top 10 pick by nice? You bet but not really realistic at this point, might as well get the kids a taste.

I don't think anyone is expecting a deep playoff run if they get in. Conroy still made a good Markstrom trade in the offseason after this whole forum was furious. I will give him the benefit of the doubt on Andersson

They literally made one of the bigegst trades in Tkachuk/Huby
Lost Gaudreau to FA

Traded like 6 players last year and 2 more in the offseason

How is that boring

Finishing just outside will do less.

Bring it on. We'll defend them into a coma, then strike (off someone's butt).

Im not the one ilogically upset, just calling out ridiculous posts. If the Flames wanted to go all out to make the playoffs at all costs they certainly could...they have more ammo than any current playoff team. They wont though

Flames are like 4 points away from a top-10 pick. Not sure if that's unrealistic.

He wouldn’t have been traded for without the extension, that’s literally the hold up this morning. That’s certainly an opinion you have about Rantanen being a UFA lol. You’re right though that Andersson doesn’t compare to Walman or Laughton, he’s more valuable than either of them.

I don’t agree with either of those points, but by doing nothing today he is making a big statement about this team.
That's not accurate. Conroys plan hasn't changed. He is trying to keep the team competitive while focusing on getting younger and stocking the cupboards.

Barring a large step forward or backwards, he isn't going to offload core players until he has to. He also isn't going to give up big assets unless it's for young players with term.

He has done a great job in the context of that plan, and he has been rewarded with a team that is competing for a playoff spot. I don't see him deviating from that plan now or in the summer.

The concern that many of us have is that approach is more likely to keep us perpetually middle of the road then it is to turn us into a real contender.

Maybe the kids still get a taste.

In 14-15 they traded Glencross and lost Gio to injury and still made the playoffs.

Flames need to be thinking about what's the best long term for the roster, not what is best long term but also helps them make the playoffs this year.
