Not really, Ritchie is a waaaaaaaaayyy better prospect than Bruz and Flames had to take a cap dump. This is a far superior return to Lindholm trade.

Enormous trade. What a haul by the Islanders. Ritchie is a stud. Avs going all in to win. I could see Dallas making a big pickup tomorrow to match it considering that’s a likely 1st round matchup.

Would Colorado have offered that for Kadri?

I don’t know

a rental maybe better than Kadri’s contract considering his age

How? No one is busting his door down with these kinds of offers yet.

How is it 'his chance?'

You think if he works harder, or wiggles his ass the offers will improve?

Everyone in the league knows what Ras (cheap 4th D on a good team), Kadri (too long 2nd line centre contract) and Coleman (too expensive checker contract) are.

If they really want our guys they'd make serious offers. Making the playoffs this has development and of course fiscal benefits. Nothing he's received outweighs that yet.

Conroy loves getting young players and picks. If those were on offer he'd be all over them.

I mean you don't know that he's listening to offers at all. All the legit insiders have said Conroy is not willing to move any of those guys.

We have 2/4 of our forum insiders saying he is somewhat listening but not seriously. The others say he is not fielding offers.

Theres a pretty solid change he's not listening to offers on these guys.

If anything remotely close to this return was on the table for Kadri then this is a mistake by Conroy, crazy overpayment by the Avs to get Nelson

I'm pretty sure Colorado would have offered this for Kadri, but talks with Colorado never got to this point because we weren't really intent on selling, and Colorado moved on.

1 year after the fact we only got a 1st for Hanifin, a 2nd for Tanev, and a 3rd for Z. Jeannot got more than all 3.

Anyway, not here to complain about Flames trades, just wish they would be in on this seller's market.

Avs must think they have a chance to keep Nelson at a decent price considering how much they gave up here.

Cap dump? maybe for Vancouver they did quite well with Kuzy using him in another deal and never needed cap space anyway

Lots of teams wanted Nelson for a number of reasons. Rental or otherwise. Avs had to step up.

Marchand to Vegas now? Or LA.

They were very interested in Kadri. Nelson was not necessarily their Plan A. It's just that talks with Calgary never really progressed far enough, so I guess you could continue to use the argument of "we don't know what could have been because it didn't happen", although I think that's a weak argument even though technically true.

As Avs GM you have this offer ready but the choice is Nelson or Kadri. You are taking Nelson 10 times out of 10. They will bring similar styles but one is a ufa you can probably re-sign for around 5 million or let walk the other is 7+ million and 35 next season.

We need a GM who can make the tough decisions of: "Yeah, you guys did great, but we still have a long ways to go before we're contenders so I'm making moves that benefit the team long term." I hope Conroy was able to learn from Treliving's past mistakes.

Rasmus' value will never be this high. If Conroy waits until next year, they'll get scraps compared to the current market value.

If he doesn't sell, then anything less than a cup is a failure in my mind because he would also be mortgaging the team's future.
