Icon59 Oilers acquire Jake Walman from SJS for cond 2026 1st round pick and Carl Berglund

https://www.nhl.com/oilers/news/rele...an-from-sharks

Quote:
EDMONTON, AB – The Edmonton Oilers announced Thursday they have acquired defenceman Jake Walman from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a conditional first-round draft pick in 2026 and forward Carl Berglund.

The 29-year-old left-shot blueliner has scored six goals and 26 assists for a career-high 32 points in 50 games with the Sharks this season, with 31 goals and 52 assists over 252 career NHL games with San Jose, Detroit and St. Louis.

Walman, a Toronto native, was selected 82nd overall by the Blues in the 2014 NHL Draft and played three seasons at Providence College before beginning his professional caeeer.

If the Oilers first-round selection in 2026 is in the top 12, the team may instead choose to transfer their 2027 first-round pick to San Jose. Should Edmonton choose to trade their 2027 first-round pick prior to the 2026 NHL trade deadline, the 2026 first-round selection will automatically transfer to San Jose unconditionally.

Wow, hope they are selling high on him because he's having a career year.

Brutal defensively. Hope the Oilers gave up Savoie

We know the Oilers are gonna keep Kane on LTIR until the playoffs.

How is SJ allowed to just dump their entire roster every year and tank for a pick?

Meanwhile, we just keep on aiming for that mushy middle of mediocrity.

We should compare what Tampa got for their next two first round picks compared to what the Oilers got for their next two first round picks

So is the small caveat that he doesn't want to go there?

Didn't they just get a pick for taking him on from Detroit? Now he's good?

Of course. I hope he comes back not ready for playoff hockey and is a liability for them, that would be karma for them keeping him out when all signs point to him wanting to come back earlier to get up to speed.

This trade probably won't hurt them. Walman leads all Sharks in ice time by a minute and a half. No way he puts up that production anywhere else, and even then he's not been as good in the second half.

Selling high on a guy on a career year who imo will be hard-pressed to repeat that success anywhere else.

There’s something odd about Walman. Now two teams who were thin on D have moved him out after he had really good seasons on their top pair.

The wings traded him to the Sharks for future considerations, now the sharks are getting a 1st

Like this trade a lot. Live in San Jose and All the chatter was Ferraro but getting Walman is a Ferrari compered to that.

I assume this is for the 2026 1st so now the 2025 1st will go to Philly unprotected.

I don't know much about Walman. One year left on his contract, then UFA and he's 29. Seems like an overpayment if it's for a 1st, no?
