It won’t ever be as valuable unless there is another unexpected flat cap scenario. Tre dumped Monahan at about the peak of cap space value

The debate is not around "why wasn't it the worse of our two picks" but rather should they have simply not done the deal, and therefore not signed Kadri.

They decided signing him was important enough to meet Montreal's asking price.

Pretty much. Almost every team was capped out because of the flat cap and Monahan had an ntc that limited things further.

Unless, of course, he didn’t do his job properly. Thinking Kadri was worth that ridiculous trade. Trading Tkachuk and trying to keep the window open instead of rebuilding. Letting Gaudreau walk for nothing. Are these the actions of someone who’s judgement you trust?
