I think the odds of Miromanov being waived exceed those of him being traded.
(He is the player who was purportedly pulled aside today).

Oh if a CPer has to follow Conroy into an airport bathroom in the coming 45 hours, I have little doubt they'll do what must be done.

These Trump tariffs have blown a hole in my brain capacity, it’s chaos.
It was very quiet today, I can confirm that CGY has set up shop in Dallas for the deadline day bonanza. All hands on deck.
Calgary’s #1 issue remains the same, “what is this team?” The west being abysmal this year coupled with Wolf being an absolute stud has put them in this very peculiar position of limbo mode as they’re not quite bad enough to suck but not good enough to win consistently either.
Craig’s vision remains clear, but how he addresses this deadline remains unclear as the players haven’t given him enough for rentals, and so young assets remains priority one.
I know they still want a center
They still want to get younger
They want depth defensively minded dman with grit to their game
They would like more picks.
Would like to move UFAs and are open to moving others for the right price.
Underwhelming offers on some of our guys currently
Market is very weird so far, lots of bubble teams who all need to decide if buyers or sellers.
Trade I mentioned earlier appears to be dead, sounds like they drifted apart on value vs price at this point.
Feeling is moves will be made, but timing is key
Reiterated that Andersson being untouchable isn’t written in pen, very valuable asset that will gain momentum as we approach the deadline.

I took Friday off and so far it seems like it could be a busy day as there have not been nearly as many deals leading up to the deadline as I thought. Likely 1-5 more trades before Friday though.
I am about to fly home from Vancouver and the last 2 times I was here the Flames made the Markstrom and Frost trades so a couple more hours to keep that streak alive

CALGARY FLAMES
Top Objective: Goals!
Ideal Fit: Dylan Cozens, Buffalo Sabres
Scoop: Dustin Wolf should win the Calder Trophy based on the lack of run support in front of him. Only the Predators have scored fewer goals – and the Sharks and Blackhawks are 23 and 24 points behind the Flames. They need goals. Expect GM Craig Conroy to be watching the market closely in the final hours. If there is an easy, low-cost solution that the Flames can bring in to support their playoff bid, expect him to spend a mid-to-late round pick or so to do it. They’ve earned it.

I can't quote you Pepsi free, so manual quote it is:
Quote:
I think the ignores market size too much. Calgary fans have an inflated sense of their own relevance overall.
You look at the top sellers and they aren’t just the best players, but the best players playing in the most popular, most dedicated markets. Celebrini is probably selling some jerseys in San Jose, no doubt, but he’s not going to outsell Bedard and that comes down to the fact that he plays for San Jose and Bedard plays for Chicago.
Calgary is below Edmonton in terms of fan base size. And that’s ignoring factors like star power and team performance. I would certainly not bet your life someone like McKenna on Calgary would ever outsell McDavid, let alone McDavid and Draisatl combined. I would be surprised if McKenna in a Flames jersey even cracked the top 10.
|
I don't about Calgary fans having an inflated sense of relevance... seems to me that every team's fan base has that in my opinion. Not sure you can quantify it being more or less than some other random team. However, market size isn't the point here at all.
My point exactly is about GROWING the market size. Yes, Edmonton's is larger. Calgary (and Southern Alberta as a whole) is more populated. Connect the dots, and the combination of star power + (fluke) winning = a whole new generation of fans.
Calgary has been the opposite of that. Sure, Calgary has done well in regular seasons, but it is absolutely no contest comparing Calgary with Edmonton in terms of fan creation and excitement. Edmonton is growing their fan base, while Calgary is shrinking. That's exactly the issue I am pointing at.
As for the hypothetical "Flames win the lottery and draft McKenna" situation - yes, I do think that for a year or two McKenna's jersey would drastically out-sell McDavid's and Draisaitl's. It isn't like people are buying a new McDavid jersey every year. Maybe over a 5 year period, of the Flames remain relatively unsuccessful and if the Oilers become more successful (which I doubt), but we can agree to disagree here.
