Agreed. We have no pending UFAs that must go my Friday, and this team shouldn't be looking at rentals.
They kind of deals the Flames want to make right now are not really TDL kind of deals. I could see them dangling the NJ 1st and maybe a prospect for a young NHL player, but those kind of deals tend to happen at the draft, or closer to. It could still happen, but there is no deadline to get it done.
I could potentially see the Flames go for a rental if it is really cheap, like a late round pick or future consideration. Like when the Flamen acquired Neiminen all those years ago. Low price, but a measurable impact.

I did some digging. Capwages doesn't have any protection note on it, but Puckpedia has top 10 protected. I am guessing Puckpedia is right. I will settle for the 11th pick then.

Can't buy a Jack Hughes but can try and buy a top 6 from somewhere to play in his spot, along with their other addition plans, in hopes that they can hang onto that playoff spot. I doubt they just wash the season because of this. Especially with no 1st rounder this year.

Yes it would be an unprotected 2026 1st in that case. Though the likelihood of their 2026 pick being better than this year's is low IMO
