Upon being called to the bar, articling students in Alberta must swear three oaths. They swear an oath of allegiance to “be faithful and bear true allegiance to [His Majesty King Charles the Third].” They swear to do their legal work “diligently, faithfully and to the best of [their] ability.” And they swear to avoid a long list of bad conduct, including destroying property, promoting frivolous lawsuits and perverting the law. The first two oaths are required by statute, the Legal Profession Act and the Oaths of Offices Act. The third is set out in the Rules of the Law Society of Alberta.
Wanting to join the US is arguably a violation of the oath to bear true allegiance to the King.

I presume the punishment for that is to be hung as a traitor at the gates of Coutts? Not really sure how this all works.

We have the biggest hammer of all the Provinces. Trump's already shown his cards that it's a weakness with only 10% tarrifs instead of 25%.
Do you cut off the taps today? No. But it has to be on the table and it has to be a legitimate threat
.
Curious as how this might work. Electricity exports from Ontario and Quebec are by (I believe) Crown Corporations so I suspect simpler for a government to simply cut off. Oil and gas exports are by private corporations (not government), would they be entitled to compensation if government cut off the flow?

You don't have to cut the flow, you just have to make it more expensive to operate, and that cost is pushed to the consumer (US). It's way easier to stifle exports than imports.

I would recommend taxing the difference that already exists between Alberta crude and WTI. That way there are no cost benefit savings for American customers switching to American oil, but they would no longer receive a discount.

The difference goes right into the Alberta coffers.

Smith spends the windfall on privatizing the police and health.

Crap, I've found the rancid bandaid in the stew.

That only works if you can send the oil elsewhere. Since we can’t, the consumer has more power to decide the price. Hence the differential we already suffer under. Any export tariff is likely going to just increase the differential and hurt Alberta, while not changing much on the USA side.

The industry can't physically pivot that fast. Refineries are working at their peak with American oil, so until 'drill baby drill' happens, there is no more domestic supply. The only other import option is Venezuela, with the logistics of a pivot to OPEC oil taking too long to implement.

It's a radical, but pretty safe short term move.

The danger is that America increases domestic supply in response, but they plan to do that anyway. Canada should really look at the feasibility of an East pipeline, just based on the likelihood that demand from the States wain, no matter what we do.

Anyone else guessing that the venn diagram of "51st state proponents" and "people who wrapped themselves in the Canadian flag during the trucker convoy" is just a circle?

I think an ideal plan is to let him keeping ratcheting up the tariffs they have to pay.

As per Marlaina's presser, no more new purchases of American alcohol will be permitted for sale going forward in the province during these tariffs

Regarding the job action in some school districts, wouldn’t the EAs and school support fall under education not Children and Family Services?

In a matter of weeks, Alberta’s government will transfer ownership of hundreds of hospitals, care centres, and other assets from Alberta Health Services (AHS) to Alberta Infrastructure.
The transfer of titles on hospitals and other health properties “will allow for us to choose the operator, and it will allow us to repurpose them to our needs,” Premier Danielle Smith said at a press event on Feb. 28.

Will allow us to chose the operator...means allowing private, for profit health care, to run them.

Ya, she's gonna be taking hospitals from AHS and giving them to the ####ing cults to run.

Quote:
At a Drayton Valley UCP town hall event, Alberta's premier revealed her plans to remove Alberta Health Services (AHS) as the operator of some provincial hospitals and turn those facilities over to other administrators like Covenant Health, a Catholic health care provider.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith shared the next phases of her government’s restructuring of health care in Alberta on Aug. 17.

The Alberta government is currently setting up a structure where the government retains ownership of facilities and leases them to AHS and is “prepared to also take away their authority to operate hospitals as well,” Smith said.

“Because if our operator isn't performing the services we need them to we're going to take (the hospital) back,” Smith said.

“The next phase is to see how many of those hospitals that AHS currently operates that we can retake ownership over. We can't do it for all of them.”
https://www.cochraneeagle.ca/local-n...om-ahs-9387543

Oh gee, let's cripple AHS and when they can't do their job properly because we don't fund them or support them, we'll have justification to remove them as operators. Then the bible thumpers can take over, claim conscious rights and they will stop abortions, MAID, and anything else they don't like.

They are here to take our rights to healthcare they don't like away, they are doing it before our eyes, but oh, hey, let's roll our eyes when Fuzz warns us of the Christofacists coming to do exactly that. Like, wake the #### up already.

Speaking to a conference on “meeting the health-care challenge” on Oct. 23, 2021, a few days less than a year before she assumed office as Alberta’s premier, Smith laid out a plan to sever major public hospitals from Alberta Health Services and privatize them.

“You give money to Alberta Health insurance. It’s a separate entity. It’s a government entity, so it’s publicly administered,” she explained to her audience at the meeting of the “Economic Education Association,” a libertarian group. “They are forbidden from running any programs or any hospitals themselves.”

“Alberta Health Services becomes the contractor,” she continued, explaining how her plan would work after the creation of the new level of health-care bureaucracy she’d dreamed up with the apparent purpose of dismantling public health care.
She goes on: “Sure we can grandfather in their contract.”

At this point, you can almost hear Smith’s sly wink. “For now…. But then we would have the Health Quality Council of Alberta do us an auditor function, and tell us whether or not Alberta Health Services should continue running the Lougheed Hospital, or the Rockyview Hospital or South Campus, or any of the hundred hospitals that they currently run.”

This was from 2021, and it was no secret. Oh, sure, let's elect the ####ing serpent. Idiots.
