Yeah people around here need to realize that Mercer is completely meh. Good rookie season and good second season, but he hasn’t been very good since.

If the Flames have playoff aspirations we need to go after some physical deterrents that can actually play, like Olivier from Columbus. I feel like we’re pretty lacking in that department and if we’re gna be known as the team that works its ass off I’d love to not be pushed over by other teams big guys in a playoff series. That plus maybe someone on D that can actually hang with the best in a fight. Don’t need guys like Weegar or Pospisil and ideally even Lomberg fighting people above their weight class.

This might not be much of a priority compared to other holes on the roster but it’s one I’d be targeting.

Calgary would maybe need to add a mid round pick.

He is 21. Defenseman take a while. He could be a long term piece.

thing is, they drafted Casey in the same draft, and he's looked really good. I think his ascent, coupled with having Silayev in the system, will ultimately lead to Nemec being shifted for a forward.

I thought I read somewhere that Nemec would like a change of scenery to a place where he'll get more ice time so he can develop the way he thinks he can.

pretty funny if he ended up being traded. Would be the third top 6 pick from that draft, after Gauthier and Jiricek ... you rarely see this, not even 3 years in. Savoie (#9) and McGroarty (#14) too.

after this year we may only have Weegs and Bahl (possibly Pachal) as everyday NHL defensemen - you're saying we have more than 3 young defensemen ready to step in?

there is plenty of room even if they got Nemec or re-signed Ras.

Andersson is having a terrible season by his standards. There's 2 was to look at a trade with him.

1. A $9M max term deal could look bad quick so maybe best to get a return for him instead of re-signing, and
2. I think the return on him right now will be underwhelming to a lot of Flames fans given his season.

Whatever happens It's pretty clear the Weegar is our clear cut number 1 and this season I would even say that Bahl is our 2nd most impactful defenseman.
