Buium is a solid rounded Dman, Nikishin looks good but will be 24 in the fall but does anyone really think either would be a 100+ point player in the OHL?

If I'm doing the rankings personally I take the player with superstar upside even if it takes a year or two to adapt.

I'm loving this tidbit in the Dickinson blurb, though:

Quote:
We’ve only seen three OHL defensemen break past the 90-point barrier over the past 20 years – Ryan Ellis in 2010-11 (100) and Parekh (96) and Hunter Brzustewicz (92) just last year. Nobody would be surprised to see Dickinson join the elusive group.

Mews might do it too if he pulls his socks up. On pace for 87.

These lists are always tough because someone has to be #1. For me you've got a top 3 that is a step above the others, and the order of those 3 matters less.

Which is to say that if we had drafted Buium instead I would be equally as thrilled. Though also absolutely petrified about whether he's going to sign. So i'm glad we aren't having to deal with THAT.

yet neither HB or Mews are in the top 15 or the short list (which is possibly fair it's a deep list, but I think HB- despite the slow start) now contributing in the AHL in his 19 yo season is worth a listing

unless I read it wrong (and I checked it twice) what isn't mentioned- in the Dickinson blurb at least is that Parekh has now done it twice

I think he is ranked 3rd simply because people still see him as Karlsson. Karlsson doesn't win you cups.

Now that Parehk is actually focusing on stuffing plays defensively, while playing incredible offence, he can arguably be placed higher up. In the end, it doesn't matter where he is ranked. What will matter is how well he does in the NHL over time. I would bet that there will be a handful of fan bases from teams that picked 1-8 upset that their team didn't select Parekh.

One of the things that really made me happy was how he looks at Makar and Hughes at lot for what they do, while also considering himself a different player than them. He didn't say anything about Karlsson. That to me made me much more optimistic about his real ceiling at the NHL level. I am not saying that he is going to be as good as Makar or Hughes, but simply that I don't he is going to end up as a one-way defencemen that you can't trust.

If he comes in and is physically ready and there is no doubt that he’s ready to excel in the NHL and not just tread water as the #6, then you keep him up. My point is the odds are he won’t be ready to excel and won’t be physically ready. Defensemen typically take longer to develop. If it’s 50:50 then you send him down. This guy and Wolf are the franchise. The worst thing we could do is rush him. I do agree that Craig will make the correct decision for his development, whatever that is.

All he needs to show is that he is good enough to claim the 6D spot. Give him PP2 time so he has the opportunity to continue to develop his offensive skills and PK2 time to help him to improve his defensive game. Don’t worry about the results as long as the team is making a near to 100% effort every night, don’t want to develop a poor work ethic or a losing mindset.

18G, 35A, 53P in his last 21 games

That's a 2.52 PPG pace

He is now 5th in the scoring race, ahead of such forwards as Martone and Senneke, and is 20 pts up on the next closest D man.

He is ripping the OHL a new one.

Don't be surprised when Parekh finishes the season with 110+ points.

99 points. 7 games remaining. I'm guessing he gets 12 in the last 7 games and finishes with 112, good for 4th highest total ever by an OHL defenseman and first to surpass 110 points in 31 years.
