I really know nothing about Frederic but based on reading some CP members in the past wanting Frederic here, as well as CPers saying this is a good trade, I suspect he has some good value.... then, to me, it doesn't seem like Boston really got good value for trading him at 50% retained.
I'm not sure this one moves the needle for Edmonton.

At 27 years old, Frederic becomes the 2nd youngest forward behind Podkolzin and the fouth youngest roster player behind Podkolzin, Bouchard, Emberson, and Skinner.

That is just like, the Boston's medical teams opinion. The Oilers medical staff will have him playing by the end of the week.
Also, I thought you couldn't trade inquired players.

looks like Lachance's stats have cooled a bit over the year (or I'm misremembering) he was getting some hype earlier in the year (local hype I mean)

For those unfamiliar with Frederic, I've watched him a fair bit being in the East, but also especially in the Panthers-Bruins playoff series.
He's defensively responsible, but is a heavy and hard forechecker. He will cause a lot of havoc in the offensive zone, and he's mean to play against. Has decent skill for a big guy (6'3" and 220 pounds) and will pot his fair share of goals, usually tight around the net. Most importantly, his GAF meter is very good, and has excellent work ethic and effort every night.

Yeah he isnt very good....people here also thought Skinner was a good signing. He is having a bad season and will be coming off an injury. I guess its depth but the Oilers bottom six are deck chairs on the titanic.

Yep. Brown, Skinner, and Arvidsson were considered great additions but how's that worked out for them? McDavid, Draisaitl, Hyman, and RNH are all playing 19+ minutes per night. Only so much ice time to go around for the depth guys and it seems like none of them can ever get their footing.

So essentially
Broberg, Lachance, Wanner, and a 4th
for
Frederic (injured, pending UFA), Jones, Hauser.
Well done Bowman, well done.

Given that they gave up assets to acquire him with double retention, the Oilers likely expect Frederic to return to action during the regular season rather than waiting until the playoffs. Either that, or they're no good.

??? I think only Arvidsson was considered a good addition by anyone who knew anything about these players. Brown was a reclamation project that didn't pan out well and Skinner was a well known problem player that Buffalo couldn't wait to be rid of.
Frederic isn't like those other guys. Not having a great year isn't the same as being a ####ty player.

According to the Athletic, Lachance is the Oilers 6th best prospect and Wanner the 10th.
