Need to cool down? You just need to find the right stream to lay in . . . .

What is that and where can I get it?
My apartment was sitting at a nice, balmy, 37 degrees last night. Woke up to 22 and it's 25 now. Lame. I'm closing all blinds and my big window... seems to help.

Time to put some tin foil on your windows.
It rages "trailer trash" but one must do what one must to survive.

Only problem with that is my cats like to look outside and I don't want to take that away from them. They're suffering enough as it is.

It's a window fan. Each fan is independant(sp?) from each other, so you can have one blowing out while the other is drawing air in from outside. They sell them at Wal-Mart for ~$50.
Or you can bite the bullet and spend $100 on a cheap window A/C. That's what I have, and it says it's rated to 150 square feet. Yesterday I had my buddy who is looking after my pets while I'm away check in on the temperatures, and it never got above 24 degrees in a different room than where the A/C is.
I find it costs around $10-15 per month to run the unit. I have it on a timer so it comes on during the middle of the day, and off after the sun goes down.

Yeah, I spent $150 on a window AC unit last year just to put in the master bedroom. Anytime you can improve your ability to sleep for money, I say do it! Although had I bought the unit in May it would have cost me half as much. But paranoid me didn't want to ruin summer by buying an air conditioner in May type of thing.
Eventually you do get used to the noise. In fact I turned it on one night about 3 weeks ago when some dufus neighbour left his barking dog outside after midnight. The ambient noise from the Airconditioner helped to mask the noise.
(*note, had it been a cold evening and I felt the dog was in a bad situation I would have brought it into my house. But it was pretty warm and the dog was just left in the yard while someone when out for drinks or a booty call I suspect. By bringing the dob into my house I would have just brought the noise into my house and left a home owner wondering what happened to their dog. Come morning the dog wasn't out anymore.)

The window in my Master bedroom isn't the right shape to be able to fit anything.
It is a big glass pane, with 2 small panes underneath which slide back and forth. I haven't found any fan that would fit in the opening.

30C during the day and 20c at night is the perfect temperature for me. Pretty soon there will be a thread "It's too cold right now." Get outside and enjoy it. Too hot? Dig out the slip n' slide.

You have to get a portable air conditioner. They are more expensive than a traditional window mounted one, but usually cool a larger area. They have a hose (or two) that go to your window and have a sliding blocker to cover the opening while intaking and expelling air.

For 30 years.
Worked on my uncle's dairy farm helping with haying for a number of years. Did some landscaping a couple summers. An autoparts plant (no air conditioning) for a summer. Dead stock removal company (*shudder*).
That was one of my prime benefits of moving - hot hazy humid summers SUCK, and the winters in SW Ont were wet snow and slush-a-thons.

Not quite, but I lived in Kamlooops and actually plan to move back there. Certainly not as humid, but 40 degrees and slugging dirty oily forums around a construction site did suck!
Although the worst ever experience with heat was in Darwin Australia just prior to the wet season. 38 degrees and oppressible humidity, I could walk 4 or 5 buildings down the street before I had to duck in for some AC. I couldn't imagine a place like Indonesia where it would be that hot, tougher to find AC and likely not smell all that nice either.

AGAIN!
Damn I miss Alberta sometimes. It has been "blinding downpours" and "life threatening flooding" in Dallas for 10 days now. I feel like I am back in Vancouver. What I wouldn't give to see Alberta blue sky again...

My biggest issue is that my apartment is very much an 'open air' concept. I have only half walls around my bed, it's not a seperate room. The entire thing is open except for my bathroom, (which incidentally is by far the coolest room in the place). My windows are all oddly shaped and don't really fit an airconditioner, and I'm broke ass and can't afford a portable. Really, I'm screwed. Although I'm apparently only at 31.5 degrees today so far, so it's better than yesterday... for now. I'll check out that window fan though. My window is directly above my bed. Might help.

I just paid that card off, no thanks. I'm saving my Sears card so I can get tickets to the Pens in Edmonton.

It's not from a warning or listed on their website. It is discussion about significant weather that I believe is updated 4 times daily. It says something different now.
DISCUSSION...INTERESTING SITUATION TODAY OVER PRAIRIES..WITH LOTS OF
POTENTIAL FOR SVR WX, BUT NO REAL CLEAR SIGNAL AS TO THE LOCATION.
OVER ALBERTA EXTREMELY HOT OVER SERN ALBERTA WITH MAX TEMP AT YXH
EXPECTED TO REACH 39. COLD FRONT WILL SLOWLY MOVE THROUGH EXTREME
SERN AB THIS AFTERNOON AND MAY TRIGGER SCT HIGH-BASED TSTMS WITH STG
MICRO BURST POSSIBLE. NORTH OF THE COLD FRONT WITH THE ACTION OF THE
UPPER JET SOME NON-SEVERE TSTMS WILL DEVELOP ALONG THE FOOTHILLS
THIS AFTERNOON. ALTHOUGH SHEAR IS STRONG CAPE IS PRETTY SKINNY. SO
TSTMS SHOUOLD DEVELOP AND DIE QUICKLY. FURTHER AWAY FROM THE
FOOTHILLS CAP MAY HINDER ANY CONVECTION. HOWEVER ELEVATED
CONVECTIONS ARE POSSIBLE ESPECIALLY THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT.

I think I'm going to start an excel sheet showing forecasts from TWN and EC for certain days, then find out what the accuracy rate is.
