Chicago picked Levshunov exactly where Central Scouting had him ranked. They might have made a different choice with the benefit of hindsight, but it was a reasonable choice at the time.

If I already have Connor Bedard, at #2 I’m only looking for the best Robin to his Batman I can find.
That wasn’t Levshunov.
It was Parekh.
Or Demidov.
But not Lev.
Leaving a pick like that to “consensus” is what gets teams to take out their starter in the 5th inning of a World Series game because math says you should.
IMO.
I’m grateful they did - I really believe we have a top-2 talent of this draft, and if we do, that’s as good as drafting top-3 in my book.

imagine being 19 and achieving something that only Bobby freaking Orr was able to do before you. Sick.

That's fair to say. I get the impression Chicago preferred Levshunov because they viewed him as having a higher floor than the others – a safe pick.
I'm a big believer in the value of offensive defencemen. Paul Coffey found his offensive game as a sophomore in 1981-82, and that same year, Gretzky went from 164 points to 212. For six years Coffey scored a point per game or more for the Oilers, and for those same six years Gretzky scored 180 points or more each season. After Coffey was traded, Gretzky never matched that pace again.
I have very little doubt Parekh is going to help some NHL teammate score an extra 20 or 30 points a year. Every forward looks better when he has someone that skilled behind him to feed him the puck. A lot of hockey people seem to think differently, and would rather have a safe all-round defenceman than an offensive machine. So they draft guys like Levshunov instead.

Could very well be but you’ve missed the most important rules of being flames fans:
- We cannot have good things, unless it’s found money good.
- Don’t get your hopes up, ever!
You re setting yourself and more importantly, the rest of us for disappointment with a claim like that. Stop.
I’m kidding a bit obviously.

Forgot the green text, sorry.
I'm more interested in if the Flames are getting a new jersey or not to before I get my Parekh jersey

Does it mean anything that I skipped the flames game thread and just went to this one. Could care less if they won tonight.

He's like a smarter, defense-playing McDavid.
(to rip off the Joe Colborne line)

I think he was pointing out it's supposed to be "I couldn't care less" because your level of care is so low.

I think only Michael Misa has a slightly higher PPG over that period. Insane numbers as a defenseman.

It's one thing to have crazy talent but Parekh is showing the type of character that superstar players have, not just the 62 pts since but his first game against Ottawa with a hat-trick and 4pts was a statement, cut me from team Canada Mr Cameron I'll prove you shouldn't ever have a voice for the team again.
I believe Cameron still lives in Okotoks, so Parekh can live in his head for many many years.

If the flames do miss the playoffs, please let the hockey gods finally show us some luck and have them win the draft lottery… just to have a chance to pick up Misa. Would be a franchise changer to be able to have Parekh and Misa as core pieces into the future.

Team Canada: We need players who play the game hard.
Zayne Parekh: …and I took that personally.
